They ignored the limitations my carpal tunnel imposed on me and kept giving me more and more to do- and more slow work, that made it WORSE.
I suspect they were trying to drive me out, and they succeeded. I don't work there any more. But I don't know why they thought it looked good for the company to have one of their workers having to pause two or three times an hour and massage his wrists to keep from screaming. Not only is it inefficient, but I'm at the customer's HOUSE; if they look out the window, they'll see me.

My job sucks cause it doth suck the soul out of me. All light and hope is expunged at the end of a working day.
Where do you live with $36K?
15 Reply- 11 mo
South Carolina. And same here. It does suck the soul out of me by the end of each work day.

It's a place I wouldn't recommend anyone live. The pay sucks all around no matter what you do here.

It is to me in terms of getting a decent paying job.

My job sucks because I work for a fortune 15 company for 20 years and I can barely survive. It took me 39 years of aggressive saving to afford my home and priced skyrocketed since covid. I was getting by prior and despite the billions in profits, working more hours, working the responsibility of two and three different positions, I can't get living wage increases, like almost all jobs now to keep up with cost of living.
Mind you things like home heating oil skyrocketed while oil companies took advantage of the pandemic and profited more than ever before. So while many big companies made more profit through Covid they cry poverty and used it as an excuse to lay more people off to avoid paying people for the hard work they do.
What sucks even more is that the trend of paying people what I make anywhere outside of my org is less because they don't want a 44 yr old skilled person that worked his ass off to earn a good paycheck. They want to pay people half what I make and what I make is barely enough to survive.
As much as it sucks for me it's even worse for gen z and younger millennials. I feel so terribly how boomers in control are destroying hope for everyone while they sit on their throwns gas lightbing and name calling entire generations saying we should be lucky they pay us anything.
I know not all boomers are bad but unfortunately with the exception of a few massive companies most boomers corporate America and run politics and the two bribe each other without any regard for their children.
I am thankful for what I've accomplished but I get really upset, prob because I'm middle aged now, and can't enjoy today at all. It feels like I'll only be able to afford a fun day in this one life we live when I'm too old to enjoy it. That and I have to hope I'm healthy enough to enjoy retirement.
I can't save for my retirement, pay all my bills and have any left over to enjoy right now. It's that tight. I sacrifice the latter so that I can retire comfortably, which I will be able to because I won't spend recklessly on things. I figured at 65 or 70 I've earned the right to not need it work like I do now. Otherwise if we need to work that late in life then we're all pretty much indentured servants (I know not a literal statement just how it feels)
I've been trying to figure out a second job but I already work 50 hrs a week and I'm exhausted.

I'm sorry. That truly does suck.

And is unfortunately all too typical of a country where CEOs' salaries average more than THREE HUNDRED TIMES their employees'. How can any big boss see his/her underlings as equals which such a cataclysmic difference in earnings?
- 11 mo
@Simslover92 it could be worse I suppose but thanks for acknowledging. This is why I don't have kids mainly. I don't understand how younger people are supposed to survive. It was crap for my gen and it's worse for younger people.

@handsomelad70 Great point and they have no skin in the game. They can take huge risks and fail because worst case they get fired and have a huge balloon payment in their contract. Hence they win the lottery when they get fired. They don't care about the future of the organizations the run because that doesn't matter when you get paid 300 times the avg salary, stock options, and perks.
- 11 mo
D**N SKIPPY, Friendlybro79, and that's most of the reason for so little corporate innovation when CEOs can profit from their (at the very least) errors and fire scads of employees and/or relocate to low-wage countries while counting their ill-gotten booty.
My job is my dream job, at first it didn't feel like it though. It sucked due to poor communication between my boss and me. At the first employee review moment I brought it up, and he has since adapted his style accordingly and its been smooth and fun since.
He'd basically treat me like the kind of employee who doesn't know better and then give me instructions half way, but it wouldn't be the kind of instructions i'd normally do myself so when he then only gave me half of the instruction and expect me to be able to figure out the rest i'd typically get stuck.
So these days he just tells me what I need to get accomplished so I can use my usual thinking process and figure it out from scratch, its faster and usually leads to better results since I can rely on more tried and trusted methods.

Got it through a miracle. It was corona era in 2020 so nobody was hiring. Suddenly my dad had a warning that his adblock contained a virus and was removed. I found it odd so I looked it up and turned out some malware developer had taken over and was stealing cookies. The emergency steps you gotta do when that happens is to sign out on every single website. That exact day I had a LinkedIn DM'd otherwise have missed because I had given up at the time and was waiting for the company's to start hiring again. That job offer was this job, 15 minutes away from my home doing the exact function I always wanted to do that was also ideal for my career.
So instead of me looking for it it literally just came to me in a near impossible way. I do believe that was guided so I thanked for it haha. - 11 mo
Wow that's awesome!
2.9K opinions shared on Education & Career topic. My job does not suck but I was in sales before I got into IT. It really sucked. I worked 6 days a week and hardly ever got time off. I wanted a day off to see my son being born and my boss gave me a hard time about it. I had to threaten to quit if he did not give me the day off. Customers were often abusive and I just had to deal with it and my effort often was overlooked. The pay was not great either,
Looking back , a lot of the experiences I had came in handy later in life but it still sucked.

I'm sorry it was like that for you. Glad your job doesn't suck now.

I like my job but many do not: no benefits, wear and tear on your own vehicle and pocket and no reimbursements, if you are in a slow area you get little out of it, it can be dangerous at times driving around my city and also having to park in narrow streets to deliver.
yet despite all this i like it. The big one being i have no boss directly overseeing me and i can work whenever and however long i choose.

As for my job I have been on it for seventeen years & it doesn’t suck & but some of my coworkers do especially the younger entitlement generation that never shows up for work & when they do they don’t want to do anything except play on their cellphones.

Why stay? Complain less and take your talents to a company that appreciates them. Staying at a job you hate at some point becomes your fault...

Can you not put your Master's to some other good use, by changing fields entirely?
13 Reply- 11 mo
I wish I could but it's specifically for the library field. It's a MLS degree.
- 11 mo
Oh.. But, do not some companies look for the fact you have a degree, simply to show you have the intellect to learn?
- 11 mo
Well its a specific degree. It's for Library Science. Anything outside of that would be hard to obtain. Like I may can go as far as being an archivist or curator at a museum but that's as far as the jobs for library science degree will go.

I have 2 jobs. One where I work from home and one where I have to work alongside people for people. Having to work alongside people for people sucks and I don’t think I have to explain why. 😂

I have a Bachelor's Degree in 3D Animation with over 14 years of experience but I can't get a job in that field. It's too competitive and no job security. Plus I dont like Living in the City. So I just got a job as A Kennel Tech at an animal rescue. I pick up Dog Poop all day for $14 an I love it cuz there's sexy girls everywhere and I love Dogs.

I dont get paid a lot. My manager literally told me that she didn't want me working harder than I was being paid.
The store manager told me when I asked for a raise after having worked their almost 4 years that I deserved one but was unlikely to actually get a raise.
To clarify I work for a large company and while he runs the store he doesn't run the whole company.10 Reply - 11 mo
I love my job but it has shitty aspects sometimes. Running your own small business of this type there really is no days off ever and if I do need to take a few days off I have to have someone else watch everything. I love the freedom of not driving into work or being stuck in an office though.

Librarian at a mental health hospital. It's South Carolina and when you work for the state they pay you little as possible.

I'm a Neuropsychologist and I also do a lot of forensic work. I love the work, but my schedule is horrendous lately. I have no boss, but there are laws and ethical canons that have to be followed rigorously 100% of the time - which means checking everything twice. Accurate record-keeping is also mandated and can get quite tedious.
All that said, I still love the work, and helping people to get well is very rewarding. Other than Cardiology, I cannot think of anything else I would like to do. - 11 mo
Ok thanks. I certainly will!
