Have you ever been hired for a job and quit even before you started?

When I was a teenager, I got hired at a movie theater. The manager barely even interviewed me. I showed up with my resume with 2 lines on it because I had no work experience and he was like, can you work these hours, and I said yes, and that was it, I was hired. My first day, which was literally the next day, I overheard some employees talking about the work conditions and I was like, I have got to find something else. Super lucky for me, another job I'd applied for came through just as I was set to start, and so I came in and told the manger I'd found another job. The theater must have really been bad because it closed for good a month after I'd been hired.

I was on the road moving across the country. I stopped to look around at a small town along the way - a town in mountain forests. I just happened to see a small business with a name that sounded like a technical company. Those are very rare in places like that. So I checked it out. It was a weekend and it was closed. But I walked up to look in the window. As I was walking away I heard some guy ask if he could help me. I told him I was just checking the place out to see what it was. Then he immediately asked me if I needed a job.

We got to talking, and he wanted someone to do some drafting work - drawing site plans for raw land that was for sale. I knew how to do it, so we agreed on a price. I was supposed to start on Monday.

I had a lot of my possessions in the car since I was moving. I checked into a motel to wait until Monday. I hadn't thought about where I would live long term yet. Anyway, I changed my mind. I was a free floater back then, but I already had tentative plans. There were also people expecting me. So I called the guy and told him I changed my mind. He was very disappointed. I imagine it was hard finding someone with the right background in a place like that.

Yes, when I was a teenager at McDonald’s, I never felt comfortable I never showed up to work the same thing with the rest of the crew that got hired

I was 3 days in.
The environment was toxic as fuck not by the business owner, the owner seemed to be alright, but the employees were horrible and antagonistic.
How I endured 3 days with the short-temptered nature that I have is a mystery even to me. Also I had to take the subway and then a bus to arrive there.
