Yup. 2019. I worked a bouncing job at a music venue; not too long before I decided to move to Korea to teach. I was surrounded by incompetents and idiots. Which wouldn't be too bad; I've dealt with bad management before. But they were also the bad management to blame all their own incompetence on those below them. Like the "I forgot to do something today, but I'm going to 100% blame you for it, for not doing it for me and covering my ass" type of assholes.

This type of pettiness and woman-like b*tching is exactly what made me quit. My security manager had less experience than me and was only hired for being a chiseled ex-Marine. One night, he f*cked up royally and was in a bad mood from his own screw-ups, and tried to text me a small list of minor BS he had been saving. Stuff that wasn't even bad; just things he disliked personally on the job, like posture or for being on time, not 20-minutes early and so on.

I can't describe it well, but it was basically ex-girlfriend type sh*t. Inconsequential minor things he tried to use against me to display how I needed to "do better" despite his MAJOR f*ck ups (like letting in patrons under 21 without checking their IDs because it was too busy that night, which could get the venue shut down for serving alcohol to minors). I was pissed off.

That very night, not even after our shift was over, I immediately sent in my resignation through email. And I intentionally made it sound as professional and classy as possible. My intent was to make it sound like I was a professional with experience and they were a bunch of clowns who were beneath me, which is almost exactly what the actual scenario was. Only, I'm not "beneath" working a concert hall. I just intentionally tried to make it sound like they were a bunch of f*cking morons, in the most professional way possible, and that no one else with my credentials would ever be caught working for them either. This was Spring 2019 and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

TL;DR: I worked with a bunch of idiots who lacked accountability, and gave my resignation to them, while shaming them for being said idiots who lacked accountability.

In the late spring/summer of 1985, I had just gotten my BS in Physics in May and was going back to school for an MS in Mechanics in September. I had a summer job working at 7-Up on Long Island. I worked for 7-Up the previous summer in Queens.

That summer of 1985, I had a co-worker, Billy Leeman (*) who was a foreman - an important guy - who had it in for me. I was 22; he was in his 40s likely. He was also good friends with the other guy who was our Teamsters union rep.

Anyway, one day in mid-late July, he was really busting my ass in a public way with everyone else observing it.

I couldn't go to the union rep because 1) he was as firm as a jellyfish and 2) he was good friends with Billy and would have sided with him.

I kept my cool as best as I could as could, but I wanted to kill him. But, I finally exploded in a screaming fest. He tried to keep cool and said "Why don't you just go back to space technology school" (That's what I was going to focus on in grad school). So, after the screaming, I just walked out.

I got a call later from some guy my dad knew asking me if I'd go back. I was 100% firm - firm in a way that I never had been before as a boy and young man - that I was not going back. For one thing, I knew that I had made so much overtime money that summer that it didn't matter that it didn't work in August; I made more in Summer 1985 than I did in Summer 1984.

Looking back, he won. He got rid of me which is probably what he wanted all along.

I don't mind though. I got a spine which is something I didn't really have before because I am an easy-going guy. I got tougher and will confront if need be. But, I learned a lot from that experience - learning about the real world, office politics, human nature.

Still, Billy Leeman can go fuck himself.

[*] In fact, I think he's dead now. I don't know. I don't know whether to curse him and celebrate and dance on his grave and/or to thank him in a way for creating a pivotal moment in my life.

Yeah, twice.

First time- call center. twisting our fingers to sell to these people and I wasn't getting a lot of people who wanted something. And I was happy to help the person. But they wanted me to sell. I took nights off because I felt like it and used 4 days on the "dentist" of why I can't come. (i did have to go to the dentist but it got rescheduled so I went with family on a trip.) I came back and they said to me "where's the doc notes"? I gave them 2, and it wasn't enough. Also that time I had a "broken windshield" (lie) They wanted the notes before I work again. I... this place was shit and I knew it before I decied to be hired. So i said I bring the notes, placed my gatekey in a bathroom stall and looked at the floor one last time before I left for good.

Second time- telephone interviewer. Ask the person who's probably eating dinner if they wanna do a survery. they got on my nerves with bullshit already but what made me walk was the cut of a 4 hour shift because ran out of work. I ride an hour to work and you tell me to go awa- that was the last Saturday. Clocked out early, gave them my resignation and walked. And to this day, they're still lookin' for someone.

Once when, on a hot summer day, the wanted me to reclean the men's room with the hose. Nothing worse than hot, wet shit mixed with bleach, urinal cakes and urine. Almost threw up and just walked off.

Another was when painting a church interior. We agreed on a payment of I think it was $1,100 or so to paint it. When payment came due, they refused to pay and insisted I accept the lords gratitude and an invite to a luncheon that weekend.
Walked off, went to the courthouse and put a contractors lein on it. I'm getting my money.

I put my two weeks in and called out for a couple shifts. Another manager who didn’t like me very much said “at least I show up to my shifts” about me to the work group chat. That comment made me not want to show up for the rest of my shifts at all lol
I already put my two weeks in, why the fuck should I care about showing up to all my shifts. What are they gonna do, fire me? 😐
It was also hypocritical of him to say that because he called out plenty of times. And when he put in his two weeks I heard he called out for a couple of his last shifts too.

I really was tempted not to show up because i was a hard as worker there. I worked 7 days a week sometimes, 13 or 14 hour shifts, and always came in on my days off or stayed late for them when I didn’t have to. I very rarely called out majority of the time I worked there. Now they wanna cop an attitude with me because I called out after already quitting? Fuck off lol

No, I never did so, but I did have a man working for me step into my office on Monday morning and announce he was quitting.

"What's the problem?" I asked. He was one of my best engineers and I didn't want to lose him.

"There is no problem. My wife's uncle died and left her (a shitload of money plus real estate), so I'm out of here."

"You understand that if you worked for three more years you would qualify for a pension," I explained.

"I don't want to be here for three fucking minutes... nothing personal."

"No offence taken. Good luck." We shook hands and he went to HR to file his papers.

The last I heard, he and his wife were living comfortably on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, where there are more country clubs than grocery stores.

Yep my very first one. I was harassed by my boss and other coworkers because they thought it was funny. I was expected to do work of the supervisor without getting a pay raise or promotion. And when I asked about a promotion they said they would work on it. They gave the promotion to a guy that worked there only 1 month compared to my two years because he was the son of a guy who worked in the office. Once I found out I just walked out right then. They called me for 2 weeks because they needed me back so badly and lost a lot of money because they couldn't get someone to fill the position. I never once thought about going back.

yeah, I mean, in a way, it's not so much i quit, but like whatever was happening at the moment, I had to leave, there was no use in me staying. and i wouldn't mind to come back and talk about it, like if they wanted to give it a day and just sort out the details and how it should've been handled, I don't mind, but naturally the employer tends to think I quit the job entirely, so I mean, I'll take whatever. though this also means i won't know what i was supposed to do in that situation and if it happens again, I'm likely to repeat the action, and so will they. it's really a misunderstanding that prevents both parties from losing money, me having to find a job the next day, and them hiring a new person when they may have just hired me a few weeks ago. but that's why you always give them direct deposit asap so you don't have to contact them for the last check.

Yes, I worked for a guy who kept shortchanging me on my paycheck. I spoke to him about it for the third or fourth time. The owner was a real wise guy and I knew he was going it on purpose. I told him I would quit if it happened again. It happened the very next wee. I went into his office and quit.

Yes. I had worked their for years and they were finding any reason to get rid of people because they didn't want to have to pay out redundancy monies.

A customer had complained about me. He said my tine of voice changed. I was disciplined but I refused to sign the formal paper for the disciplinary action. It was so ridiculous

Yes, I got a job right after high school at a movie theater, but the same day I got the job and was supposed to start, another job that I interviewed for that paid more, called me to let me know they wanted to hire me, so same day I was supposed to start at the movie theater, I walked in and quit.
