I started a new job yesterday as a youth counselor. After meeting one of the kids I will be working and her family her dad reached out to me on the side. Not in a bad way, but he was definitely flirty. It wasn’t crude or overly flirty but still. I probably need to tell my manager, don’t you think?

There is no way around... you are a female... you are going to get things like this.

so develop your strength, values, learn to hold boundaries. Women communicate all the time... sometimes those communications are confused. But you will draw attention from males.

many other people are not drawing appropriate lines and thus creating "drama"... which you have to deal with.

So do what you feel is right. but definitely grow in strength so you feel you can handle these issues.

Some girls would desire and appreciate the attention. others repulsed.

I would advise your manager of the situation and ensure the manager, if he makes any advances with are inappropriate, you will decline and inform them right away. Is the guy married, or a single dad?

I ended up making my manager aware of it yesterday when we had a 1 on 1. He is single, his wife passed several years ago sadly. Which is one of the reasons his child is in therapy now

Oh, that's sad about his wife. Sounds like he's a good guy taking care of his kid by himself.

Definitely. Super sad and he seems like a great dad. Trying to do whatever he can to help his kid the way he is. It was hard listening to them share their story and feelings

Won't hurt anything for sure, but will let them know what went on and just keep an eye open when he is around.
