Last time I checked England is part of Europe. The alphabet has a lot to do with it and some similar words, however it’s not that easy. The big advantage is exposure pretty much from the age a child learns to talk, they are also exposed to English. No one is really going to watch series and movies from outside the US/ European / Australasia bubble.
Based on my trying to learn French, Spanish and German, I would say they are NOTHING like English.
As an Asian I can say they are all similar. If you say it for french german and Spanish you would have extreme difficulty in learning turkish iranian chinese etc..
I have difficulty learning ANY language just It hasn't stopped me trying, but I think because English is recognised as universal, there hasn't been the urgency there. that other people from backgrounds, such as those you mentioned would have.
English IS a european language. So yes. Its a germanic language and specifically a west germanic languages similar to other european languages so yes. Its easier for them on average.
Yes, having similar alphabets helps.
