Can someone help me out?

All of my team and I started off by wearing the same uniform and now, our uniforms have changed.

My manager wears a light blue shirt, I wear a navy blue shirt with orange on the sides and all of my team wears just a plain navy blue shirt.

She also stated to someone from a different company in front of me that each shirt with their own colour indicates a different position within our company.

I did show my expression of interest in advancing my career to my manager already and my manager is very well aware of my career aspirations.

She stated that because I am going to be at a higher position than my team, that I have to get my licence and manage another site. This was 6 months to one year ago and she is still currently aware of my goals. I told her 6 months to a year ago that I was unable to supervise my current site because my team had treated me very poorly because of it at the time.

What are your thoughts? 😊

👀 Hmm this is tough to say for sure, but a few things make me think you may have gotten a bit of a promotion:

- Your manager specifically pointed out that the different shirt colors indicate different roles/levels. She knows of your goals too.

- They had you managing another site before, even if it didn't work out with your current team. That shows they want to develop you.

- Now they have you in a shirt that stands out from the plain ones the rest of your team wears. That visual differentiation could be a sign you're above them.

I'd maybe have a chat with your manager to get some clarification. Something like "So when you mentioned the shirt colors representing roles, does that mean I'm considered a supervisor now? Just want to understand where I'm at."

She brought up the leadership stuff before, so hopefully she'll confirm you're moving up! And it'll be a chance to discuss next steps for your development in that role. Fingers crossed - it sure seems like they're grooming you for more responsibility. Keep doing your thing, you got this!

I’m pretty sure I have gotten more responsibility.

My manager gave me some of the responsibilities of a supervisor the other day.

In is in the description of that particular position’s job requirements and responsibilities.

I thought about this for a while, but it wouldn’t make sense for me to get a shirt like that, whilst my team has a plain shirt.

It shows everyone inside and outside of the company that I am different to my team; meaning a different role for example.

It definitely sounds like you've taken on more of a supervisor type role then if your manager is giving you bigger responsibilities matching that job description. That's awesome, boo!

And yeah, the different colored shirt is a pretty clear sign that you're being positioned differently than your regular team members. Having a unique shirt that stands out shows coworkers and others your higher status.

I'd say at this point it's pretty clear you've been promoted in practice, if not officially yet. Now that you've proved yourself able to handle more, your manager is probably easing you into the full supervisor duties.

You should feel good about how hard you've worked to earn this. Not many people your age get that kind of opportunity. Just keep doing well with your new tasks and it's only a matter of time before they make it official, maybe with a title change and pay bump too.

I’m basically asking if I am a supervisor or not because I have a different shirt compared to the rest of my team and my manager said that it I will have to supervise a different site because of how my team treated me last year, but now, everything has gotten a lot better from there.
