Airplane crashes are extremely rare and highly preventable. Most are due to pilot error. Redundancy is implicit in engineering and you are exponentially safer in the air than on the highway.
Farming requires an incredible amount of knowledge and skill. Big Commercial farming in the USA is unsustainable and another dust bowl era looms very near.
Your commercially “stick built” house in the USA probably meets less code requirements than a manufactured home. The labor costs are approximately 75% of the material cost.
Even brand new machinery will require repairs.
A college degree does not come close to the value of skilled labor and experience.
Engineers do far better when they listen to the experienced skilled laborers building their product
I agree with the animal training!
Great info. I have heard this about manufactured homes. Crazy.
🙂
Yep! 😆 and those who won’t live in a trailer can’t accept
@Charliefretz329
Yeah, I've been hearing more and more about dust bowl days reoccurring.
Scary thought.
Educate yourself and you won’t be let down relying on others
@Charliefretz329 @dustybiker2
The "animal training" these days is amazing.
Pretty soon, they'll have the "handlers' running slaloms and doing somersaults, with the dogs handing them bits of treats at completion of each task.
Lmao 🤣
I've had a couple that have already tried. Too smart for their own good sometimes. 🐾
All of my animals who played fetch, dogs and cats alike lol; tried switching roles after they got tired
😂 They do this, yes. "Your turn! Phew."
Although some just won't stop.
I've trained various forms of federally protected professional working dogs since the 90's. I'm on break the last 3-4 years and miss it terribly.
Yes! Love it! I love animals
Wow!
That IS dog training.
I'm sorry that you're missing it.
You mentioned "on break", is there hope for return, if I may ask?
I've always been really good at "Sit", "Heel", Down", and of course, "Paw".
Oh, boy, dusty must be thinking...
Sit is my go-to.
My last little canine buddy passed away not too long ago, but if he would've been running full tilt towards something dangerous, I'd command, SIT, and it was like a huge electromagnet would immediately clamp his rear to the ground.
The look on his face at those times would be priceless.
He'd look like, WTH just happened, I was having a really good time, and now here I sit all broken-hearted.
I swear that I only used that in times of impending peril.
I swear.
I do so miss him.
"Come" has always been an SOB, though, for me to accomplish.
That'll give a guy an inferiority complex over time, you know.
And no, I don't use negative reinforcement, only positive.
I'm like, WTH, do I stink or something?
It's complicated.
I'm sorry for your loss.
That was one solid down your dog had, you should be proud of yourself.
In regular pet classes I often helped in too we emphasized you need at least one solid go-to for emergencies.
You create a solid "come" with a long line. Leave no room for negotiations. Say it once and if they ignore you bring them in and praise like crazy when they get to you (important) ending with a sit/stand/down front ot side, whichever you requested.
Once their brain registers there is no room to ignore you it becomes solid very quickly. Key is to never give them the chance to begin with though. Breaking bad habits (as I assume you know) is much tougher.
Another trick which works best with a young dog, if there is an emergency and you need them to come quickly.. make an exciting noise and run in the other direction. It's instinct to follow the pack.
Great points Dusty! Definitely agree!
Heel is in the same group
Use the animals natural instincts for good. And work with them in mind. Too many people overlook this.
You will never overcome instinct. Why fight it?
Truth
I was taught the long line method for "Come" years ago, but I think that I just picked up on a variation from my training in your description that caused my difficulties in training the command of "Come".
I'm thinking now that I was either taught or I incorrectly adapted the technique of much too quickly resorting to the "turning away and running" bit in order to get the pup to come to me, instead of simply using the long line to "reel" the pup in.
That set the pup up to respond to excitement, not a command.
If I ever get another pup, I'll refrain from so quickly adding the "turning and running, pack-joining mentality".
Thanks for your clear description.
👍👍😊
@nolabels You are welcome. 😎
I'm not legally allowed to answer that.
Oh fun answer
@dustybiker2 Yours was funnier :))

99 percent of the time power loss in a room/ several rooms is caused by stab locked outlets. That's where they strip the wire and stick it in the holes in the back of the outlets and switches.
Over time the expansion and contraction of the wire makes the connection loose. That causes the power to arc to make contact which creates heat and can cause a fire.
If you have outlets or switches that loses power intermittently, get it checked out by a licensed electrician before your home catches fire
Oh, this actually happened to us!
No, there was a sizzling sound however.
Blimey. You learn something every day in this place!
@TommyMountainFigure if you don't learn something new every day, you wasted that day. It's one of my motos
So true!!
That is the thing too. My house had several issues and never tripped. Scary as all out.
Agreed to that moto as well.. Also, I always believe when buying a property, first thing to do is have it rewired!
@TommyMountainFigure not everyone has the money or time to have the house gutted and Rewired. It's an expensive job when it's done correctly and getting more expensive as codes change.
I guess so, but I factor rewiring in with the cost of the house! (Gutting it would have to reflect in the asking price)
@TommyMountainFigure if you buy a 2000 to 2500 square foot house, how much do you figure in to gut and rewire the house?
Give me a sec whilst I translate it into dollars
I'd say it was 2 weeks work taking it back to brickwork and re-wiring could be done whilst gutting the place Id say somewhere in the region of $6,000
@TommyMountainFigure way off in my area. That 6k would cover the service and kitchen wiring. Where I live, a complete rewire to code is going to run you at least 40 k
Wow that is MUCH more expensive than here. My house cost 3k Sterling for the entire rewiring. As for gutting and decorating.. I have a couple of very good friends. decorator and the other a plumber. I helped with a lot of the work and gave them another 3K..
This is for a 3 bed Semi. I also didn't factor in how much bigger the 2,000 to 2,500 sq ft would be, or how long ago I did my house.. I've had it 20 years!
Thanks for the panel tip, I will check.
I weep to look into what rewiring would cost in my area. They did so many mistakes on these homes from the get go. They used roofing material for a sewer pipe for one... that was a $20 grand find.
I'll let you know when I get a min to look.
@exitseven you'll have problems with those outlets if you use them all the time. The expansion and contraction of the copper wire will cause the connection to loosen up. It will start heating up and arcing. Then there will be a potential for a fire. I see it all the time.
@exitseven forgive me. I was tired and stressed when I typed it. Actually I'm still stressed now
@exitseven it's good that it's a gfci protected circuit but gfci don't trip for any arcing. The outlet could burn up inside the wall and you will never know until it's too late. I'm glad you made the connections the right way. You saved yourself from a big headache down the road.
@exitseven that's because not every state is using the 2020 code. There are states that are still using the 2011 code. #12 & 14 wire fits perfectly under the screws. You wrapped them clockwise around the screws didn't you?
The culture inside of first responders is NOT what it is on television. Everyone’s sleeping with one another’s women (and men). If you can imagine a office that’s full of toxicity, back stabbing, two faced people, and drama. But imagine that your life depends on your coworkers.
There are a lot of people who pretend to be your friend who aren’t. There is a lot of cliques and niches, and if you don’t find your place it’s you against everyone. It’s like high school but WORSE. There is s lot of politics as well.
Interesting. That's sad.
Or maybe more disappointing to learn.
Not everyone is bad. Many are great people. But it’s very toxic. People think they’re better then everyone else. They grow into their cliques and it’s just
I can understand.
I can second this from observation and experience! 💯
@DrPepper12 yeah it’s really a shame it’s like this. It seems to only be getting worse.
@DrPepper12 I would say law enforcement is one of the most toxic cultures. Firefighters aren’t a far cry. Don’t even get me started on dispatchers that’s a whole other rant. Emergency medical doesn’t seem as bad but it depends on where you work. It can still be about the same
Dispatchers are so cold. 🥶
Yeah some are. Some are good people. But unfortunately some of them aren’t very good people in my opinion. Just based off what I’ve observed
I'm retired, thank goodness, but when I'd be on the roof of a building when it's -20F, repairing a commercial building's failed heating system, having the occupants of that building telling me to hurry up, that they're COLD inside the building at 67F, definitely let me know that they had absolutely no clue as to how my line of work got taken care of.
No, wait a minute, that'd be "outsider" knowledge, I guess, wouldn't it?
Oh, my. 😱 I could have started chucking icicles.
lol Brrrr!!
lol, I can relate good buddy
@Charliefretz329
I'm including Charlie here, so I don't have to type this sob story twice, but he knows all about it.
I can detect the perennial shiver still emanating from his inner core.
Once it settles its way in, it's something that never leaves you.
Oh, I did chuck icicles.
Every few minutes, as my streaming tears, salty, of course, as we ALL know that tears are salty, that's how darned cold it used to get, would form icicles below my eyes, I'd crack 'em off using my mittens (try using meter leads on 480 Volts AC some time wearing mittens and see if you can keep from blowing your ass up), and then chuck 'em as far as my massively layered outerwear would allow my arms to swing them.
Maybe 6 inches or so.
And for every degree further below 0F it got, the exponentially slower my gray matter functioned, drawing the troubleshooting process out even further than when toiling in warmer climes, not forgetting that I was also trying to see through those salty, freezing tears of cryogenic agony.
Yeah, I know, bitch, bitch, bitch!
lol
Buddy it’s acceptable! I grew up in Michigan and I feel your pain!
I moved to Florida and enjoy the oppressive heat far more

Discovery channel has several of the biggest music libraries in the industry and on one of them, every album cover is a meme that looks like it was made by somebody’s kid. Some of them are hilarious and whenever I watch a tv show, on history, discover A&E etc. I’ll recognize songs from the catalogue.
a shit ton of them feel like they were originally meant for myth busters.
The shortest route between where a person jumps in to the taxi and where they want to go, isn't always the best. Sometimes you need to go the longer way, which gets them there quicker and ultimately cheaper!
Same goes for motorcycles. lol
That makes a lot of sense Db, seeing as the motor cycle is the quickest way through traffic.
'Tis.

Well i work in customer service and im sure this is no insider knowledge but if we like you we give you more products and if we hate you we offer you EXACTLYYY what you paid for. We talk shit in the back room about clients half of the time. Ones who come late. Ones who refuse to follow instructions and then complain. Ones who give us attitude 🤣
Sounds like high school. 😁
You described it perfectly 🤣
Hahaha
That’s fascinating! I just work in retail so I really didn’t learn much except that customers can be really annoying sometimes.
It is fun to turn a cranky customer into a happy one though.
True lol
It's better to stay moving and alert, or you start losing your body functioning and your brain functioning
discipline is key
That sounds like a job with long hours? Or cold?
Actually, it's oddly enough the opposite. It's all about, if you don't use your body, you will lose it.
I've learned that from the community I work for
Ah gotcha. That makes sense too.
Funny. Dog training is actually people training. I like it.
For coding, if it isn't documented it didn't happen.
So that could be hit and miss lol Geez.

Most of what you call AI is just regular code.
Is it the meta crawling then and raw processing power that makes it seem so intuitive?
@DrPepper12 I have seen people online suggest that *AI* can know when the fridge is empty, and create its own shopping list. People have been doing that since like 1985.
Yeah but is it the meta crawling that makes it appear omniscient?
@DrPepper12 There is a function in regular code that looks like Math. Average (). It can take a list, and average all the numbers in it. Been around since ENIAC probably.
AI is just a function that looks like Opinions. Average (). That's why it's so wrong all the time.
TY so much! Im VERY curious to learn about AI. I often use Perplexity and while good its not ready for prime time
