What was the biggest reward or incentive at your job that turned out to be a carrot on a stick?

I worked in sales and they said you get bonus pay if you exceed your target but they would double the target quota when I took over a shift cause they knew I made more sales than the other workers.

Students high scores on state tests. I was rewarded with the toughest classes cuz "I can pull them over the finish line". Gee, thanks!
