What martial arts do you learn in the army?

It varies greatly around the world, however the basic rule is if you have to use martial arts you and others have fucked up badly. The idea is to kill the others at range, rifle, machine gun, mortars, pistols etc. The UK regular forces learn a form of Defendu (dirty fighting) and close combat fighting, this filters in various areas including bayonets. The other thing to remember is that martial arts tend to be one on one unarmed, while you do whatever martial arts on a guy, his mates will simply shoot you. There is a lot of emphasis on killing the others at person fast and efficiently, more elite units such as SAS, SBS, Paras n Marines learn more advanced styles but it’s never really been a single method and predominantly it is used to kill.

I think the hand-to-hand combat training that the military offers should also include weapons.

It does as entrenching tools are a tad sharp, knives, simply hand to hand is not enough.
