I was in my twenties living that way but the worst was I grew up with parents getting food stamps, no heat, my father stealing k rations from the natl guard he was in, always hand-me-downs and lots of other indignities. There is no mobility in poverty.

Yep, and it SUCKS!! 3 years ago I was not. And ate out 5 times a week.

No, I am retired and have a decent amount saved. I can remember when I was living paycheck to paycheck. It was tough and there were times when a $50 doctors visit meant that we could not go to the supermarket tht week and just had to live out of the closet or maybe get one of our parents to invite us over for dinner.

Unfortunetly, my life is heading towards the paycheck-to-paycheck scenario, with very low financial reserves. I had a stroke of bad luck, when replacing my older car with another used model. The new car has a leaking DSG (automatic) gearbox, which will be expensive to fix. I would need to borrow money to fix it, and that will put my monthly savings at 0.

No. We have several tens of thousands in saving and several hundred thousand in investment/retirement funds. I lived paycheck to paycheck when I first moved out and I was living with 2 roommates.

I can't remember a time that I didn't work paycheck to paycheck. But now it's old age benefits to old age benefits 🙂

I have 4 uncashed paychecks in my dresser drawer, so I'm 4 paychecks away from living paycheck to paycheck. I don't make much but all I do is sleep when I'm not at work.
