Do you think that students should have to keep cellphones in their lockers?

Teacher here. Good luck enforcing that! THE PARENTS will revolt. Every parent wants Little Johnny and Little Janie to have their phone on them in case it's an emergency. Most often the emergency is "Aunt Linda is going to drive you to practice today instead of me" or "What do you want for dinner tonight?"

I made my peace with cell phones and try to do the best I can. Some teachers have put up a shoe rack that's numbered and the kids put their cell phones there which functions as attendance as well as taking away their phone. I would never ever never ever ever never ever do that!!! One of my colleagues had that policy and one of the girls hated rivals over an ex-boyfriend saw her phone in the pouch and took it. Got into her social media and started posting all of the most obscene disgusting stuff and sending texts as if it was her and then smash the phone into a thousand pieces. Would you like to know who had to pay to buy a new phone? That's right, the teacher who last had in her possession.

I already have taken away phones and I saw things that I was not meant to see.

My advice too any teacher is to do the best you can but never take possession of the phone. That escalates the situation tremendously and always ends badly for student teacher security Dean and parents. Just politely ask him to put it away, if they respect you they will.

I even got "creative" if you want to call it that with the phones where I would let them use their phones for classwork research occasionally and of course there were interruptions with Snapchat and texts and Instagram but as long as they did their work, in a group, never using phones individualy, I was okay with it.

It's actually kind of funny how teacher surveys for the 1950s listed chewing gum in class as one of their top five concerns!!

The school I work at has a no cell phone policy. If a student has one out, we ask that it is put away. If they refuse, we call admin and they are taken out of class.

Heck most adults go through withdrawal after 10 minutes.
