I think we should stop treating 10 year Olds like they're 4, 15 year Olds like they're 8 and 17 year Olds like they're 12.

There is absolutely no reason why a human being that is given math homework can't handle a cheap phone unless they are raised with no discipline. Granted, kids do stupid things I'm talking about the overall maturity needed to have a phone.

And the answer is they're going to have to. The phones exist now. Just like how guns exist and we need to deal with that problem in a way that acknowledges that they always will. Otherwise you'll always be a victim of people who don't care.

Joking aside, schools should encourage mobile and wifi usage, if anything. They can control and see what the kids are doing online and act accordingly, if necessary.

Too many schools are expecting parents to do all the mental maintenance, despite teachers spending as much time with the kids.

Yes, all day long even at lunch time unless they have very special circumstances. They shouldn't even be allowed to use them at lunch no phones at school from the moment you enter to the moment you leave is how it should be. Frankly I think kids shouldn't be allowed to have phones legally at all until they're at least 16.

My view is mobiles are for adults, when they can afford to buy them. Why do young people need a mobile?

If there was an age restriction on mobiles there wouldn't be a problem in schools, and we wouldn't have problems with underage viewing of pornography.

Yes, they are a big distraction. When i was a kid sometimes we would sneak a transistor radio into school. The teacher would confiscate it and we could, have it at the end of the day. It was understood that it was a distraction.

No. Many of my former students were more comfortable with their phones than their Chromebooks and I understand that is their problem but even before schools begin issuing Chromebooks I ask my students to occasionally use their phones in class.

Yes, at school I was the only one who didn't have a phone, and that really held me back because I had to write down the Microsoft Access codes by hand.
