When working a job should you let others negative opinions of the company steer you away from keeping the job?

I’m 28. My job is a union job, with a nice pay, pension, healthcare etc but like all companies the job may need more structure. It’s not a prefect company and it doesn’t have perfect employees. It is even a little toxic in some ways but it’s still beneficial to me for building a platform for my future. I often hear my co workers speak about leaving and I know some co workers who have left or were fired and it kind of discourages me and makes me consider leaving too. I start to believe the company is going under because of the bad views of it but I know leaving would do me no good. It wouldn’t benefit me especially if since I have responsibilities and set goals. Would it be wise to not listen to others and keep my eye on my vision and not the vision and negativity of others?

In any job, in every company you will find a few dissatisfied employees because as soon as you work with others, there will be tensions arising. The one gets a promotion that the other wanted and the he/she feels that the promotion was not justified and will leash out at the employer by having negative opinions.

Just as @Nikki1989 states, trust your gut feeling and don't let yourself be influenced by how others perceive the situation. If you are satisfied with what the company offers and how you can personally profit from its structure and competency, then go for it. Gossip is always a bad counselor.

Yes! Most def is best to not listen to others. I work in a place where there is also a lot of negativity but as long as you know you are doing your work then nothing else should matter. It's tough though for sure when others negativity can rub off on us too and then we start to become negative. The saying goes you become what you surround yourself with so if you are around more positive people that will rub off on you also

Listen sure , but don't let it completely influence , but always listen to the negative and the positive , Union style roles will always have plenty of negative. So continue on , but always be looking at options , you are always better to be working , keep all contacts in place.

Yea but that’s the thing. I’m tired of starting over and out of all the jobs I quit or got fired from this is the one that’s seems perfect for me. Like I was meant to end up here. Not because the company does everything right but it’s adding things up in my life and making my life make sense and I have vision of my future which I didn’t have before at other jobs. I have seniority, nice off days and I have the option to get better off days and a better shift, I have the benefits that can help me build a future for my son and I. I don’t exactly want to start over with onboarding/orientation, getting to know a new company, new co workers and employers and how they operate. When where I am, although not perfect, I have an idea of how they do things and doors have opened for me personally since being here.
