if you have, please say the continent you live in, the type of work (education, business, finance) and the reason they let you go.
Additionally, how have you been coping?

ps, I was not laid off but I know quite a few people who have either been laid off, or are having issues with employment after graduation Due to the rise in immigration and cheap labour markets, a lot of people are struggling in major cities across Canada

I've been laid off twice in my life. Both times in the United States. First as a mental health specialist at a community counseling center. They weren't making enough money to keep the lights on and were forced to close, being bought out by another company. I got hired for the new company, but ended up quitting.

I then went to work for a hotel but was laid off in 2020 because of the pandemic. Turned out to be great. I made twice as much money off of unemployment during that time. Got hired back a year later.

Yeah, still at the hotel. Though I have started looking for work elsewhere recently.

Yes, a few times. In my last full time job, I was told I was "just gonna get laid off for a few weeks, DON'T look for another job because you WILL be coming back!" I never DID get called back and, about a year later, they went out of business!

Yikes. This is kinda the reason why people stopped giving 2 weeks. Did you look for work in that time or no?

Yeah, I did and, I got one but it was only one day a week, Sunday, for about 5 hours and he let me go 6 weeks later claiming he couldn't afford to pay me. The next time I went there, someone else was doing my job nowhere near as good as I did it! I, eventually, got another one with the Red Cross. Part time but I had it for about 2 years before I was forced to quit by my family. I also got another doing voice acting in movies.

And, it's STILL not over!!
Mom left the house to me but my ex-sisters didn't like that and took me to court over it and I lost the house and they sold it! It had been in our family since 1936!
I had no place left to go so, my aunt (mom's older sister) took me in here at what used to be grandma's house. My aunt allowed scammers to riip her off for every penny she had, and then some!! Over $11,000,000!! She even mortgaged the house and car to give them MORE money just before she died 3 weeks later! So, not only am I stuck with trying to pay back the mortgage (with no income, thanks to the economy!!) but, as there's no Will saying she left the house to me, 3 of my ex-cousins are trying to take it away from me!!

I’m sorry to hear this. That’s a lot for one person to carry on their shoulders and 11m is a faq ton of monies.
Truthfully, I don’t know any comfort words to make this better.

I was just laid off the beginning of this year and the job market is absolutely horrible , I am having such a hard time landing a decent job , the job market is something I have never experienced before in my lifetime

Covid took a toll on the business, we lost a lot of contracts do to it , so my company decided to close down my office and ended up giving me a nice severance package thinking it would buy me time to land another job , unfortunately that wasn’t the care at all , I have applied to over 600 jobs and I am getting nothing but denials and run arounds and having smoke blown up my ass , i honestly never experienced anything like this before in my lifetime , so something is definitely screwed up on this country

A good friend of mine is also in this predicament. He used to go warehouse management and after 5 years, the company sacked him under new management to bring in cheaper labour. But I’m sorry to hear. 600 is a lot of jobs to apply for. Hopefully something picks up soon before you fountain runs dry.

Thank you , yea I have a couple potential offers that I am weighing , it’s not the money I am asking for but it’s got benefits and that’s primarily what I need at this point in life , So I will probably take one of these jobs for the time being while I keep looking

I started work at 11 years old … lots of teen jobs… then completed college and got into my career… for 25 years.
