"SUV" covers a whole lot of ground today. Are you talking about a "crossover SUV" (one of the most popular segments today) or a mid-sized SUV (Ford Explorer-type), or even a full-sized SUV like a Tahoe? Those are very different segments.

The Tesla Model Y is the best selling vehicle in North America, and it is essentially a crossover SUV - and also electric. It's closest ICE competition would be the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CRV. I don't know if $60k in Canadian monopoly money is enough for any of those, but I'd rather buy a low-mileage used example of any of those than a new Hyundai/Kia, because they're crap. There used to be a GaG user who owned a Hyundai/Kia dealership who strongly advised people not to buy them either. They're popular because of their lower initial price, but they shed value like crazy because they are poorly made, and are easy to "mechanically total" - meaning the repair costs exceed the value of the car. The Toyota and Honda will last, and will hold their value FAR better.

Honda and toyota are the hottest right now in the Greater Toronto area however the Rav4 has a longer wait time. You could go the Ford route and save on insurance because its a domestic but i would choose Toyota over Honda and Ford. Mitsubishi cars aren't bad either and they offer better warranty options if your buying brand new from the dealer. But reliability is the better option in the long run
