I had two Tahoes. I kept them for 12-13 years and had well over 200K miles on them. They were a great vehicle for a family. Lots of storage space and a nice roomy back seat. I actually took the third seat out because I needed more storage space but there is a 3rd seat.
I bought one in 1996 when gas was 4 bucks a gallon. I saw a picture of just the one i wanted. When the dealership took the picture there was snow on the ground and it was August so I knew it had been on the lot for a while. I gave the sales guy a real lowball offer and he turned it down, I wrote the number down on a piece of paper and told him if he changed his mind I would come right down with a check. I don;t think I was home for 10 minutes before the guy called back and said his boss agreed to sell it to me even thought they would lose money on it. I bet that the dealerships are offering big discounts on big SUVs now.
The Chevy equinox is a small suv that is good on gas and safe. Leasing the car means you can get a different vehicle at the end of your lease but you'll have a car payment for as long as you lease vehicles. If you buy it you won't have a payment forever and at the end the car is yours
If you trade in an old vehicle for pocket change and buy your SUV used you could pull it off.
