Do you believe personality is more important or do you believe hard work and productivity is more important to being an ethical person in life?

I could work very hard and earn a lot, but I don't know how I could avoid being stingy and selfish if my life revolves around trying to get rich, and if every penny I share with my family would lower my pay cheque and decrease my wealth while being obsessed with money.

Or, I could live a normal life, have normal work hours, no more or less than the average person, earn enough to live on, but not live in any humongous house, not drink any expensive drinks, not go on any expensive trips, and then pay money to host friends and family at my house, pay money to go to weddings and birthday parties and holiday events, live a life that is neither greedy nor super selfless, and have a moderate and satisfying existence where I have what I need, but not always what I desire.

I believe both personality and hard work are important in shaping an ethical person, but they play different roles. Personality, including traits like honesty, empathy, and integrity, forms the foundation of ethical behavior. Without these core qualities, it's difficult to act ethically, even with hard work. However, hard work and productivity are crucial because they reflect the ability to apply one’s values consistently and responsibly in action. A combination of both, where one’s ethical principles guide their efforts, leads to a more balanced and effective approach to life.

I think this is something each person has to work out for themselves and then find thier "tribe" so to speak.

I remember my mom's advice when I was young, "spend some money, save some money, and give some away" and this has served me well my entire life.

Father Mike Schmitz said God set the template for us during the creation. He worked creating the universe and then on the 7th day he rested. God doesn't want us to work all the time. And nobody gets to the end of thier life and says, "boy I wish I'd worked more". But I life without service to others is a wasted life.

I don't look at work as the answer so much as I consider idleness to be the enemy.
