How is picking up a dime, a nickel, or a quarter any different than pickup up a penny off the ground/floor?

I picked up a penny yesterday, from the floor. I think it was heads up, can't remember, so that usually means good luck, but, it makes me think of the phrase a penny earned is a penny saved. I didn't earn the penny, I found it, I know but, still, same diff.

There's talk of getting rid of the penny. So, how is this any diff. than picking up a nickel, a dime, or even a quarter. It's all change, anyway, that's been dropped, or something. So, why is it such a problem with the penny?

"A penny saved is a penny earned" -- so you earned it because you technically saved it from being junk on the street (or wherever you found it). There isn't a difference in picking up other bits of change. You've still earned it since you've saved it from being lost and therefore worthless.

Why is what the problem with the penny? There's a penny shortage (apparently) and this means it's getting harder and harder to use pennies, so there's talk of cancelling them... but that's been a discussion since back when I was born, so I'm not sure it will ever happen.

Where we used to pick up a penny or nickel, now we need a $20 in our hand every time we leave the house, and $100 just to buy something more than a cup of coffee.

it's all money, just that it takes a lot of pennies to buy anything.

you could find a rare one maybe has a lot of value, or sentimental.

you could possibly find a roman wooden dinar (currency)... those are worthless as well.

all due to inflation...

I'll pick up change and even pennies off of the ground. It doesn't take any effort to bend down. Those coins have value, maybe not much, the they do have value. In fact, the metal in coins has intrinsic value.

When I think of American currency now it makes it seem they should be using the shekel. It would make just as much sense.
