She said that grit is the number one factor for success and grit is a combination of hard work and perseverance, and I believe there might be truth to this, because I know lazy people with high I. Q.‘s who became poor and I know average people who worked hard and became rich.

If you work for other people hard work doesn't really pay off. You might get good performance reviews, a raise from time to time, and promotion in responsibility, but the faster your rise, the quicker you will get liquidated when a company has hard times. There is no loyalty in corporate America anymore. They will shit can highly paid workers first and higher new people for pennies. If you own your own business, then absolutely hard work and persistence is what makes it all work. If you give up, then you fail so you just have to keep at it every day and get shit done. The more you do that, the more your business grows and as a result the more opportunity you have for profitability.
