My cousin and her same age neighbour had gruesome study ethics, personality self control ethics, and mad gym protocols, and both became massive successes. One got a elite job on Wall Street and the other became a biology professor at a Jewish university with a high profile lawyer as her husband, both working close to each other.

Its lots of thing. Ability, drive and luck all play a part. If any of those are bad enough, you won't be successful, but you can be successful if just one is good and the others are mediocre.

There are also ranges of success. Most of the fantastically wealthy or powerful people have all 3.
