Is it hard to work in the US military?

I am Turkish and I live in Türkiye. If I get a green card, I want to join the army. What do you think are the disadvantages or advantages? My profession is chemist.

I very well could be wrong about this. But I would be surprised if its possible to join the military (specifically) if you aren't a US citizen.

I would guess that America wouldn't want to train or give access to confidential information to anybody who wasn't going to stay in the US, and who had pledged no allegiance to America. Again I don't KNOW that to be true. But I would be shocked if its not.

(think about it... they don't want to spend thousands of dollars training you, only to have you go back home after a few years. And classified military information... to someone who has no allegiance to the US and does have allegiance to another country (even a NATO ally) I can't see that being allowed)

Depends. At 31 Basic Training will be hard on you. We had a guy that was 26 and we called him pops. Get in shape before you go.

You may qualify for a special position given your knowledge of Turkey and the local language. There are obvious places of interest near your border so perhaps you can help them with your understanding of what is said in radio transmissions etc. You might ask at your local US Embassy what you could do to start the process.. if you don’t live near them, try calling them and get an appointment to discuss your qualifications.

Unless you have useful language skills like Arabic, Pashto or Persian, you would probably end up as a standard army grunt (which is more boring than hard work). And remember you have to put 20 years of service in for a military pension.
