Does your brain exercise the way muscles do?

I knew a top student at my school who told me that every summer, his intelligence would decline dramatically because he had gone 4 months without doing home work due to summer break. In my 20s when I had been out of school for 2 years, I attended an 8 hour creative problem solving seminar and wanted to sleep by 1:00 p. m. because I was exhausted mentally from using my brain for 5 hours after not doing school work for 2 years.

My first year of high school, I would fall asleep while doing math homework because my brain was tired. It never happened in the second, third, or fourth year of high school and my first year of university, I would fall asleep while memorizing information for tests. It never happened during my second, third, or fourth year of university.

I did not do too much thinking during my four week vacation in April, and now it seems I tire faster when I try to use my brain to think or strategize.
