How do you feel about blue collar work?

What do you think about blue collar jobs, trades and vocations? Would you encourage someone to pursue that kind of career? Have you worked a job like that?

I have. I worked in a warehouse for seven years and then worked on the manufacturing floor at my current employer before I got promoted to my current role. I loved it and miss it. And yes, I'd definitely encourage my son to follow a trade.

The whole blue v white argument is nonsense. Is a skilled mechanic who's been through years of training less a person than an office data entry clerk who's had a few days training at best? Nothing to do with intelligence either, would you let an idiot wire your house? Let's not forget a lot of these blue jobs need you to have a high level of education before they'll even consider you for an apprenticeship.

The big downside I see is with many blue jobs if your company goes bust you might not have any transferable skills and without any qualifications find it impossible to get re employed at the same wage. If an office closes there's a million other offices but where does the steel worker or miner go?

I think it's good job, I did it for some months. It's job that are actually useful and that we need.

Before people throttle their brain's blood supply with a necktie, they indeed should have learned first what to do (and to create and to shape) with their own hands.

No profession is useless in a network of society that requires to have ALL jobs done.

I know lots of guys in the trades. Thy all made good money. The problem is they all have bad knees and cirrhosis of the liver.

I think that they're very hard workers and I respect them for doing something with their life and making a good living.
What I cannot deal with is these people who just don't want to work. The new generation. 🙄

I wish I'd gone to trade school. Or been with my current employer longer so that I didn't have to take this promotion.
