Collectively, we truly are geniuses. Because, as you said, we failed a lot. We also suffered, killed, thought, exploited and died a lot to get to this level of tech, rights and comfort. Though the past tense here feels inappropriate, because "the game" isn't over yet.

    By comparison, we are.
Objectively though, “genius” is both anecdotal and conditional.
In a zoo with thousands of captive animals, the one monkey who escapes is a “genius”.
In a room full of geniuses, the average married man is mentally retarded.

We don't learn from failures and we just find new ways to make old mistakes.

  • Failure indeed provides valuable lessons, but becoming a genius requires more than just learning from mistakes. It involves continuous effort, curiosity, and adaptability. Many people face similar failures, but what sets geniuses apart is their ability to reflect on setbacks, extract meaningful insights, and apply them creatively to new challenges. Furthermore, learning is an ongoing journey, and progress varies from person to person. By embracing failures as opportunities for growth, staying committed to lifelong learning, and fostering innovative thinking, we can unlock our potential and achieve greater success.

    Yeah. Well. About that.

75% of humans avoid change like the plague and have near zero capacity to learn from their own mistakes or by watching other people crash and burn. They will stubbornly ride that horse they are on into the ground rather than admit they are wrong or face into change and uncertainty. They will not ask for help. This may not be a popular opinion but 75% of humans are fucking stupid! They lack the cognitive tools to even understand that they lack the tools to cope with life.

Hence why I choose to simply avoid interacting with most people. It's exhausting! And pointless.

There are always new people. Always a new generation that starts anew. They have the choice to read and learn from history, listen to wise counsel and experience from the previous generations or all of recorded wisdom or they can choose to not learn and just go make the same mistakes and new ones.

The lust for pleasure and taking short cuts and not working and following the proven way is always part of humanity, always thinking we know better is common with humans... pride.

You would think so but I think that there are so many ways that you could screw up that nobody can do them all.

Or as the great Alfred E. Neuman said " Learn from the mistakes of others because nobody lives long enough to make them all themselves."

Doesn't that assume that we actually do learn from mistakes? I see an awful lot of people fail in the same way repeatedly.

Also, learning from a mistake might not make much overall difference. For example "Oh, I'm now 0.0000001 IQ point smarter." Or "I won't make that mistake again." but then fail at each of the next 10,000 steps in the same process and so on.

But I wish your thought were reality.

Not really - to be at genius level means that one comes up with brand new thoughts that had not been thought earlier.

To only patch up the earlier errors is a lower level of intelligence.

Unfortunately there will always be a large cohort of humanity that needs to relearn past mistakes before pressing on to the future.

The key is that we should learn from failure, but we often don't.

People tend to forget, even before their reincarnation (forgetting explains reincarnation perfectly).
