Should I choose English literature or translation?

When I applied for English literature it went by smoothly and it was super fast and I got there by last minute and they accepted to enter me

for the translation I still haven't applied but when I tried to it got delayed and messed up so I'll go on Monday again

I don't want to mess this up I feel like it's a sign that I should major in English literature bc the process was easier it felt so smooth and it's a like a sign from the universe, but at the same time I want a major that has more job opportunities bc with translation I can go by the freelance route while English lit is limited to just one language, but I feel like English literature is more "my path" , should I ignore this feeling?

I think you should stick to English Literature. Translators don’t make a lot of money. Actually, many aren’t even paid living wages. English Literature will provide more opportunities as well.

Opportunities as a translator perhaps. I live in an area of the U. S. where salaries are well above the nation’s average and interpreters aren’t paid enough to live on.

I think English literature would lead to more opportunities to take other paths. You could write books, edit publications, write scripts, etc. If you have an added interest, you could be a technical writer. You could even make up story type scripts for video games. There are so many things you can do!

can I still do these as a translator? Bc i can have more opportunities bc I know how to write in different languages , I can work for example as a technical writer in a Japanese company
