Do you believe that an education makes you more intelligent?

Question

Anyone can read books anyone can go pay a lot of money to go to university so they can read certain books. I'm not sure that that makes somebody Superior to somebody else who didn't read the same books. Maybe somebody who doesn't have a piece of paper saying that they read all these books might have read a lot more books than you think. So basically does knowing information make you smarter or are you just as stupid if you didn't acquire the information as before you did.

I don't think there's any such thing as wasted education. We're all lifetime learners. Having said that, having advanced degrees does not necessarily mean you're any smarter.🤣 I look at degrees as just proof that you have some gumption. So while I say this I'll always support education (so long as you go about it intelligently). Don't go deep into debt without a good plan. Colleges today are largely just factories. And most are turning out a mediocre product. And I don't blame the kids. You can't expect an 18-22 year old to have it all figured out. I blame the advisors who just corral the students into programs to fill some quota. Saddling them with a debt they'll take decades to pay back.

I had buddy who owned an operated a print shop. And he kept having problems with his paper supplier. Finally he had to go over his paper salesman to his boss. Apparently thier company had multiple incidents with this guy. Now my friend recognizing the the salesman's seemingly inexperience asked why they hired him if he seemed so poorly equipped for the job. And the guys boss said he has to be able defend his reason for hiring a guy to his boss. That a lot of times it's a choice between the guy who has lifetime experience and a younger guy with more education. Since he can't know who each of them are as a person. The person with more education just looks better on paper. And since it's his ass on the line he needs to be able to defend his choice of hire.

Like I say this just illustrates what I said earlier. You can be a complete helmet head.🤣 But the degrees suggest that you have gumption (whether that's actually even true or not). Because you made the effort to further your education.

You are confusing an education with a degree. There are many uneducated people with a degree, and many educated people without. Similarly there are many stupid people with degrees, and many intelligent people without one.

It can but doesn't always. Intelligence isn't scaler. I know people with masters/doctorate that have no common sense/critical thinking skills. They are basically only good at their job and that's it.
