Have you ever got sick at work and your boss was against you going home?

I just started a new job a few weeks ago and I already want to quit my job. My boss is a complete asshole and acts like I am supposed to live at my job and to not care about my personal life whatsoever, I been working non stop hours burning myself out and I haven’t had a day off since I started, just because I am the manager , he acts like I am supposed to not have a life whatsoever Yesterday at work I came down with a fever and I was burning up badly , I was there 10 hours until I couldn’t handle it anymore, I told my boss everything was running smoothly, so I am going to go home to get some rest and take some medicine so I can hopefully feel better for tomorrow, He made a comment saying you are leaving already? I was like are You fucking serious? So I said yes I am leaving cuz I feel like shit , so I walked out of the office pissed off and went home and crashed, this
Morning I woke up even worse and texted my boss to let him know I wasn’t coming in and told him to call me when he gets a moment , he never responded to me back. So I am like whatever , and now debating if I am even going back at all , I never worked for a job like this in my life. I don’t want to quit because I need the money but I been applying to other jobs like crazy hoping I can tell him to Go Fuck Himself. What would you do?

I’m so sorry to hear this. I have multiple health issues that I have to take off for from time to time including a recent cancer scare and the company that I work for now has been absolutely wonderful about me taking time off to heal or go to the dr however I’ve had bosses who were like yours.

One of the health issues I suffer from is vertigo, which is extreme dizziness and sometimes nausea. At that time I was working as a residential counselor for mentally ill adults and staff was so scarce at that place that if I called in my boss would have to cover my shifts. Mind you this guy was supposed to work until 5 pm every week day but would frequently leave at 1 pm. So one Friday my vertigo was so bad I couldn’t even get out of bed and I called in (because work was 30 minutes away and I didn’t want to drive while dizzy). He tells me to take a Dramamine, wait 15 minutes and drive to work because he had a social outing that night that he didn’t want to miss due to having to cover my shift. I basically said “nope, my safety and health are more important than your outing. I have sick time accrued and I’m taking it.” He held a vendetta against me for a week after that and that’s when I started looking for another job. This guy is really a hard ass!
Yes, I used to work in a small company owned by a witch who was a millionaire and she was heartless when it came to missing work for any reason.
One day my son was very sick and I needed to be home 🏡 and take care of him. He was only 8 years old. So I called her and told her I had to stay home and take care of my sick son. So she brought work for me to do while taking care of my son. She didn't have any kids so she didn't know what it was like to be needed by a sick child.
Another time it was snowing very hard, they closed school that day. She wouldn't let me stay home with my son. She actually drove to my house and picked me up and brought me to work in a freaking snow storm! 😑
I realize that you would like to tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine, but money talks, right? Lots to pay them bills and he knows it.
Just hang tough until you can find a decent job. You really don't have a choice right now.
Karma will take care of him one day. You just hide and watch until it does.

Yes, but not quite as bad as you describe. The guy I worked with was an ass when it came to being sick. Unusual since this was a job in healthcare. I guess he figured healthcare professionals themselves should never get sick.

Nope, that never happened. There were two times in my career when I got sick at work, and my boss was very supportive. "Go home and come back in when you feel better," he said, which is the smart thing to do, so other employees don't also get sick.

It happened once and I was actually told to go home and let them know ASAP if I'll be in the next day. I would definitely go back to test the waters.

Thankfully, no. I just work in summer when not at school. Little chance of being severely sick. My boss is cool, so I doubt it would be a problem if I was.

A job is not worth destroying your health over. The place I work would never ever do that. They encourage us to go home when sick.

Every job. I once had to finish the day, then go straight to the urgent care. I was off for three days afterwards, and worried the whole time that they'd be mad.
