Warning: long rant:
I met her (let’s call her Vicki) and she’s alright. Things were fine but feel like she sees that I’m different from other adults. I don’t know how Vicki found out that I’m autistic (boss must of told her) but every since, she doesn’t talk to me much anymore. She seems annoyed when I’m around. She avoids me, gets annoyed when I am slow figuring things out and so.
Vicki talks to two of our other coworkers and has conversations with them. We work with autistic children. She never talks to me. She answer hi when I say good morning but it’s usually in a dull tone. When I talk Vicki looks at me annoyingly and turned away. She also talks to other coworkers outside of our classroom. When I say bye to her she says it and moves away quickly. I try to engage with her kindness but it doesn’t work. She invites some our coworkers (including the two we work with) to outings but never me. I overhear her while I work with the kids.
One time she asked me how to work on some monitor and when I struggled to explain, she scoffed and said, “Never find! I’ll find someone that is better at explaining things than you.” And walked off.
Vicki only talks to me when it’s work related. She gets irritated when I struggle to get a child when she told me twice how to help them get it down. I got it right the third time. Then when a child was trying to dig into his lunch box. I tried to stop him and asked if he’s thirsty. Vicki scolded at me, “NO! He’s HUNGRY. You clearly saw him reaching for his FOOD! Give it to me and I’ll put it on the shelf!” She snatched it from me and rolled her eyes. She didn’t have to yell.
I don’t understand why she reacted that way to me. I can be intimidating, 5’11, plus size and 240lbs. This happened to me before in other jobs. I just want to form a work friendship with her but she is distant towards me.
I worked there since last October.
