What is the best thing to do when someone looks down on me?

I live a simple life but sometimes I find it hard not taking it personal when someone looks down on me what is the best thing I can do?

First and foremost is stay calm and in control refusing to react impulsively commonly their attitude says more about them than it does about you.


Secondly , asses who is saying it , it’s this someone close to you , a mentor , boss , partner? Or some random idiot who just wants to put you down because of their own issues?


For you to rise to it / be defensive is generally what they want so don’t give them that , keep your dignity and simply repond as I do with a wry smile and say “ noted “ , this infuriates these people


For those who would consistently attack you or treat you like this , assert your boundaries and refuse to be spoken to in such a way … calling them out on their behavior with phrases like “ what’s your intent here , to hurt me? To embarrass me? , does this make you feel good? … or ask then to explain why they speak or look down on you , this forces them to justify their actions. Sometimes just coming back at them can be really effective like replying “ interesting perspective , I will file that under unimportant “ or “ wow , thanks for clarifying how little you think of me “ most will shrink away when you come back at them , they are just parasites 🦠


Their judgement does not define you , just focus on your values , skills and self respect. Only sometimes criticism is masked in condescension so if there is is a learning you can take , then take it and improve yourself otherwise shrug it off as their insecurities , it often is.
Finally and maybe the most powerful … don’t internalize it , the more weight you give it the more it will eat away at you

I took all the bad stuff and used it for fuel to be better. When someone told me I needed to be more of anything I said ok, thank you, and tried to become it. Its not fun. It sucks, its lonely, and you feel like all you have is yourself. Then you realize you are all you ever needed. Once you get that people look up at you but still are putting you down sometimes... I realized nothing matters but what we think about ourselves. Be a person other people would want to be and those that look down on you won't be the one you notice.

First of all, people who "look down" on others are not worth knowing. When someone behaves that way I just smile and walk away. You know why? Bc the shit always hits the fan and they always end up needing something from me. Lucky for them, I was raised to help others even if they've been nasty towards me.

Next, you're old enough to know yourself. Don't give in to flimsy self-esteem. It's the single biggest problem among human beings. It's the reason women end up doing things that cheapen their value and the reason guys end up doing things that cultivate toxicity in their lives and the lives of others. It's the reason people are able to sink their claws into you with their negative thoughts/words. Stop it... now. Don't feed negative thoughts.

When you find yourself sliding into a negative cycle, STOP and give yourself a break. Think of something you're amazing at and make time to go do that. Reach out to a good friend and schedule time to chat with them or hang out.

Oh, me too. So much sometimes. I mean, I'm just a hick, redneck , country girl who often feels she doesn't measure up to anyone. Growing up we were dirt poor, I always had hand-me-down clothes and often went to school smelling like a barn. In fact, I still often go to town smelling like a barn 🤣

I learned that people will judge and ridicule and shame and name call but I also learned I don't have to believe them.

I learned, after a long process of self-reflection and struggling through toxic shame, the ONLY one I even have to answer to is the girl in the mirror and today I can look at her and smile and mean it and she smiles back and says, "You're fuckin' awesome!" 😊

Being able to disregard stuff like that is part of being an adult. There are always going to be people who look down on you. There’s always gonna be people who are higher status than you, have more money than you, look better than you or think they’re better than you because of how they live or what they believe. There’s nothing you can do to change the fact that there’s always Going to be people who look down on you Whether they’re really better than you or not. if you love yourself and you know you have value as a person then yourself worth shouldn’t be tied to somebody’s opinion. If your self-worth is tied to the opinion, a random strangers, you gonna have a very long hard and stressful life.

Ignore them. Often even if people seem confident, it comes from insecurity. Then when it doesn’t, life has a funny way of teaching hard lessons to those who need grounding.

Ignore them and walk the other way , distance yourself from negative people and surround yourself with positive people , people that want to be a part of your life , people that talk highly about you , and ignore all the negative ones
