Im a retail store manager and been doing this for the last 14 years. We found out around 6 months ago the corporation was selling the stores to franchise or management firms. My store sold 2 weeks ago. Before I was getting 45 hrs a week which is 5 hours overtime and monthly bonus. How it's only 40 per week and no bonus. The hourly wage stayed. I lost about 160 a week. I know it's kinda hard finding work these days. Question is do I stay or go?

In the land of retail stores from time to time they buy, sell each other & unfortunately sometimes stores do close or file for bankruptcy. As for overtime it’s never guaranteed & overtime is a bonus if you have it or had it. In my company overtime comes & it goes & there are times where it’s unlimited. As for some of my coworkers if the overtime goes it’s like they want to blow their brains out because they got so used to it & the base their budgets on it. As for you I think you should stay with the company & see where things go with the new management firm & if there is a store closure in your future hangout & hopefully there is a good severance package.

How are sales in your store? If sales are up life is good & if sales are down & keep going down start working on your resume & hopefully the new management firm is not a liquidation company.

Old company was guaranteed 45 hrs with 5 ot. Sales is about the same.

You are lucky you aren’t on salary as a store manager & hopefully the new company doesn’t do it. Getting paid hourly is the way to go. I was on salary once & never again would I agree to it because you can work 60 hours & only get paid for 40, it’s bullshit. I have 19 years in my company & I’m so high in sonority that overtime is offered all the time. I love it how I’m hourly & get paid more then management.
