Is this an ok way off searching romantically for a partner?

I haven’t dated anyone in 4 years, as nearly everyone I met locally was a bum. I’ve decided to attempt to form relationships the old fashioned way, by talking to men online who live overseas from me, in first world countries. Like me. I’ve narrowed my search down from 4 good men to the 2 best suited to me, based not on appearance, but intelligence and kindness. Both intend to visit me soon. From there, I’d pick one to marry (if they choose me too). After some dates in person. Is this a better way to do things, or at least an ok way of doing things?

Since when is online the 'old fashined way'?
I never felt right about commoditising a human, it isn't meat. For me, a relationship is with one specific person from the moment the intetest gets sparked - regardless of how far it goes. The commodity stuff to me always felt like being lumped with someone rather than choosing whom I'd like. But then it was only recently I got through to someone I'd actually like to be together with.

That a true waste of time and there's not much more fantastic as this. Try meetup and the hobbies. Soccer and others. I met my woman through an established friendship there.

Point taken, but how can you even be sure your own relationship isn’t a fantastic waste of time? My point being that isn’t life a gamble?
