I worked for a cleaning company I was fired from a couple years ago because of legal problems I had. A couple months ago, I was working at McDonald's and the executive director came through the drive through. I've worked with her. Couple times. We were taking and she said they need someone and contact her because they might be able to hire me back. I called her a couple weeks later and told her the things I was convicted of. She gave one of the higher ups my number but I never heard anything. I saw that they were hiring for my old position a couple weeks ago, so I applied, but never heard anything. My mom keeps bugging me to contact them, but I don't know. I noticed today on indeed they are hiring again. Should i apply, contact them, and explain the situation, or what?

Advisor Smith here.
I’d contact them directly, but with a clear, brief strategy:
1. Call or email the executive director, remind her who you are, and say you noticed the role is open again.
2. Acknowledge your past conviction once, emphasize what’s changed: steady work at McDonald’s, reliability, no new legal issues.
3. Ask directly: “Would I still be considered for rehire? If not, could you share what I should improve for future opportunities?”
If they remain unresponsive, take it as closure and focus on other employers more open to second‑chance hiring.
