Do students who use AI in their studies do better than those who don't use AI?

There has been much debate over student's in school using AI. Should they or should they not use AI? Does it help them when they use AI?

A scientific study was done in which two groups of students were given the same science test. One group of students uses AI frequently in their schoolwork while students in the other group never use AI.

One group scored an average of 509 on the science test.

The other group scored 481 on the science test, 28 points (6% lower).

Which group got the higher score?

AI can be a useful tool if you're not lazy. You had better scrutinize the result and do a little research before you accept what it tells you as fact. I was recently doing an electrical add-on project... adding a couple two gang outlets which I ran along the wall instead of under the sheetrock as the location is mostly hidden anyway. I used AI as a sounding board to double check all the supplies I would need to do this. It did make several errors in the calculations, but the process helped me visualize the process more clearly and I caught the errors. It admitted to making them... ha
So it's a helpful tool but if you just trust it you may be sorry... check it's work.

They might get better GRADES because somebody/thing else is writing their papers for them but, because THEY AREN'T doing the work, they won't remember any of what they were SUPPOSED to be learning by doing the research themselves or just using logic!! ANY fucking idiot can look shit up online!! Smart people don't need to BECAUSE they actually learned what teachers were TRYING to teach them!! If all the kids are gonna do is look shit up for the answers to everything, why the fuck are we being forced to pay school taxes?

it depends on how they use it...

as part of my tutoring on some kids... this is a very important part so when they take off and they go on their own... they're better prepared to understand stuff themselves, and not just copy paste with AI

I a, m assigning a term paper this semester. I have not done this in a few years because most of my students could not write above a 5th grade level.

You are asking the wrong question. The real question to ask is which group would have done better if AI was not available at all. Corollary question is: which group would have done better if both had AI?

yes, but the metric of measurement is blind, it's actually the opposite. the ones that do the actual work should be rewarded for doing the work, but alas, it's the opposite.
