How can I correct a background check error about a felony with an employer?

I applied for a job as a freight clerk at bi mart a month ago. I disclosed two misdemeanors I have. Never heard back from them after the interview. My mom has a friend who knows someone who works there, and she said they didn't hire me because they did a background check and that I have a felony, and I know i dont. I was gonna call the sherrifs office to confirm, but I'd probably need to tell them what's going on, but im pretty sure my moms Friends friend shouldn't be telling me what's going on at the store and I dont want to throw her under the bus.

A background check is a background check & a crime is a crime & as for a background check it either comes back clear or it doesn’t. As for a job interview if you don’t hear back from them & you don’t follow up with them it’s your own fault. Always follow up & if you wait for a phone call you’ll be waiting for a long time. As for your mom’s friend don’t thrown her under the bus. As for your criminal record unless you have it fully expunged you are still going to have a record. As for the he said, she said felony charge unless you have the actual report in front of you you’ll have no idea what it says & some people could mistake a misdemeanor as a felony.

As for the person that interviewed you if you follow up with them & they happen to say your criminal record didn’t come back clean ask them kindly for a copy of the report for your records. Don’t argue with the person that interviewed either because if you are really nice for all you know they could give you a second chance down the road.

If I were you, I wouldn’t mention the person who told you. ❤️ I’d contact the employer and simply ask whether a background check showed a felony and how you can get a copy of the report.

If there’s actually a felony listed that isn’t yours, you can dispute it with the background-check company. It could be a simple identity mix-up. These things do happen, unfortunately. 😕
