Why is Colorado’s job market so hard to break into right now?

I am currently unemployed;

I was working as a caregiver but had to leave due to there not being any new clients which are based off of how many hours I work with them as well. The pay was okay, but I should have been making way more with what i did as a caregiver. I don't understand why it is so hard to get a job especially here in Colorado. I feel like a lot of these jobs not sure if it is anywhere else but in Colorado it is all about who you know and who can refer you and I don't really have anyone or know anyone that can. This whole thing is just so stupid. Is Anyone else having the same issue and does anyone have advice

At this point yes, I didn't want to put applications in for fast food because I have already done it, but I started applying for McDonalds here, hobby lobby etc. It sucks because I just want to work.

If you have good references I would think there would be a lot of demand for a caregiver. Not familiar with the specifics of Colorado.
