It’s never too late.

In my 20+ years advising developers, I’ve seen people start in their 30s, 40s, even 50s and become excellent engineers.

Focus on:

1. Foundations: Algorithms, data structures, databases, networking, OS basics.
2. One main stack: For example, JavaScript/TypeScript + React + Node, or Python + Django/FastAPI.
3. Deliberate practice: Build small projects weekly; gradually increase difficulty.
4. Code quality: Learn testing, clean code, version control (Git), design patterns.
5. Community: Contribute to open source, join meetups, get feedback.

Age matters far less than consistent, focused practice.
