not always. most do rely on album sales to keep going. they rely on tours too, but album sales are important. for those who just download for free it makes them suffer really. I've been told plenty before by people in the music business (i'll soon also be part of the music business too)

you know I wasn't specifying metallica. some bands like them do get a lot of money, but not ALL. how do you think bands get the money anyway? how did metallica become rich in the first place? bands that do have a lot of money would eventually lose it if people just get music free. believe it or not some bands do rely on their music to make a living
