8) Black Biscuits

My Top 10 Favorite Bands 🇯🇵

Black Biscuits formed in 1997 with Comedians Nana Mikyoya, Amano Hiroyuki, and Vivian Hsu after the success of the group Pocket Biscuits. Black Biscuits challenged Pocket Biscuits to see who can reached the top of the Oricon charts and become the most popular group in Japan first. In turn, the group appealed to the Japanese audience as a dance unit. They released their first single, "STAMINA", by the end of 1997 with much success.

They released their second and third single, "Timing" and "Relax", which features Amano on main vocals, in 1998 with the same success as their debut single. Although there were many disagreements on the single "Timing", including the last minute change of the costumes' colors from red to orange, the single paved the way for the group to appear at the end of the year program Kouhaku Uta Gassen with their rivals Pocket Biscuits. They also became very big across Asia, and appeared in many song festivals around Asia that were sponsored by NHK.

In May 1999, Ding Kaidi joined the group and appeared in the next single, "Bye-Bye". But, due to Black Biscuits not achieving their goal of beating Pocket Biscuits in term of sales on Oricon, the unit was forced to disband a couple months later.

4) Perfume

My Top 10 Favorite Bands 🇯🇵

Perfume is a Japanese pop girl group from Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, consisting of Ayano Ōmoto ("Nocchi"), Yuka Kashino ("Kashiyuka") and Ayaka Nishiwaki ("A~chan"). The group has been signed with Amuse, Inc. since 2003 and with Universal Music Group since 2012. The group's music, on several occasions, has been identified as "technopop". It was around 2005 that the group's original post-Shibuya-kei sound began making a transition to electronic dance-pop music, influenced by 1980s synthpop and incorporating vocoders.

MTV Iggy said "There are a few reasons why Perfume is one of Japan’s most thrilling pop acts. For one thing, there’s the music, which is an infectious batch of chart-topping melodies built upon a foundation of intricate maximal house production that would give Daft Punk a run for their money, with heavily processed vocals that stutter robotically yet always sound 100 percent human. On top of that, they have an impeccably designed retro-futuristic image and punishing, innovative choreography that they nevertheless render effortless. Where all of this truly comes together, of course, is on stage."
The group has influenced acts like Aira Mitsuki, immi, Mizca, SAWA, Saori@destiny, Sweet Vacation, 80_pan and former labelmate Vanilla Beans.

My Top 10 Favorite Bands 🇯🇵

Wednesday Campanella is a Japanese band formed in 2012 combining musical elements of the EDM, J-Pop, and Hip Hop genres. The trio consists of KOM_I, Kenmochi Hidefumi, and Dir.F...

In 2011, Dir.F and Kenmochi first met at Design Festa Tokyo. As a label manager at Tsubasa Records, Dir.F wanted to launch a new music project with provisional female members, while Kenmochi wanted to produce new music differing from his instrumental music under Nujabes's Hydeout Productions label after the 3.11 Disaster in Japan. The two decided to form a group and named the project ‘’Suiyōbi no Campanella’’. In 2012, Dir.F met KOM_I at their videographer friend’s house party and invited her to join the group. KOM_I had no prior music experience until she joined the group and joined while in high school. Originally, Kenmochi and Dir.F sought a trio of girls for the group, but the idea quickly was abandoned. For their initial debut, another female singer appears on the cover and sings but there are no credits within the liner notes. Eventually, KOM_I became the only vocalist. She was chosen as a vocalist originally because Kenmochi liked the mismatch between her voice and the rap music he was producing.
