Foo Fighters 1000%. One of my favorite bands, and they've been in my top band choices probably since I heard Everlong around 10 years ago or so. They've been super consistent in their music in my opinion. Wasting Light is probably my favorite album overall, but Everlong is my favorite song from them. It was one of the first songs I learned on guitar/drums and holds a special place in my heart.

The other bands you listed (apart from Aerosmith, and perhaps Guns N' Roses) are coincidentally the bands I listen to when I'm not listening to metal lol. Have you heard of Queens of The Stone Age or? You may like them.

I would also suggest checking out Incubus. I personally recommend their album Light Grenades.

Pearl Jam is incredible
I remember AFI and being pretty into them when i was in high school
Queen is a great band

Yeah, I was into MCR back then. My other fave bands were System of a Down, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Slipknot and Lamb of God, though I do listen to other bands as well.
Most songs on my playlist were from SOAD.

this is why you have to do a bit of effort actually digging around. The music is just as good you just have to go find it. We've got world-class poets at the top of the charts and probably the most creative music ever being created in electronica. You'll find good bands as well, just outside of the charts.

@lilaqua Never heard of any of them. I'll check them out. But of you like hiphop and electronica, I don't have much hope I will like those bands. That stuff is garbage and a great example of why today's music has gone down the toilet.

Oh I also forgot to add MGMT with Little Dark Age. If you think like that of course you're going to think modern music is bad. Kendrick Lamar is pretty much on par with someone like Dylan or Patti Smith lyrically, if you ignore someone that for the sake of being really against hiphop as a genre you're just being deliberately disingenuous.

It IS garbage compared to music of the 60s and 70s, and some of the music of the 80s and 90s. There is literally nothing in hiphop that compares in quality of music to that older stuff.

Granted, there is some good lyrical talent today in pretty much any genre, but the quality of the music as a whole, the instrumental components, the complexity, the originality, the creativity... there is almost nothing today that even comes close to to the plethora of great music produced years ago.

Hiphop and electronica are sad excuses for real quality music.

Great. Just another closed minded soul. Check out death grips while you're at it. They might inspire you to think out the box a little. They certainly did for me. For a while there I only listened to classic rock and punk but that band singularly changed my viewpoint. I also think you'll find on a technical level they are incredibly complex. Blending electronic sounds and samples, some of which are pretty everyday noises like a printer, guitar, hiphop, punk, metal, zac hill's insane and drumming. Start here

@lilaqua Look, musical taste is very subjective and I'm not going to judge someone for liking that kind of "music", but to my ear the song in that Death Grips vid has very little musical value at all. It's just noise.

Fifty years from now no one will remember the Death Grips or any of the bands you mentioned, because they are not noteworthy. But everyone will remember the Stonbes, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Nirvana, Sublime, CSN&Y, Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Kinks, The Greatful Dead, Lynyrd, Skynyrd. The list goes on. There is NOTHING in today's bands that comes close to those classics. There is no 'great' music being made today.

Considering that you consider it, 'just noise' is kind of ironic. Did you know David Bowie was a massive fan of them and actually inspired a lot of his work on blackstar? Or that a bands like Sonic Youth or the Velvet Underground, which may not have household name recognition but are the bread and butter for a lot of us music fans and are some of the most influential/critically revered bands ever could equally and have been by some chalked up to being 'just noise'

Again, I'd argue about the quality of some of those bands cough* lynyrd skynyrd cough*, but you also don't fundamentally understand how the music landscape has changed. Musicians cannot be as famous as they were because of the democratising nature of the internet. Pop music is being sucked dry because they are getting less and less attention, so the record industry scrambles to promote artists with the widest appeal.

A Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus has little recognition beyond those that really aren't that musically inclined, and they just don't sell records like people use to. Your average person avoids the top charts completely, preferring to listen to artists who have relative fame but not to an arena style extreme. Unlike in decades past I can pretty much avoid all popular music. I could recognise maybe 4-5 songs out of the current top 100 because of the way we listen to music nowadays. Classics will exist because good songs do penetrate the charts, eg. get lucky, brockhampton, kanye, tyler the creator's new stuff but they might not be as well known. Hell i'm certain a tonne of bands and artists, like Death Grips will be remembered in the future, only really known by a smallish subculture but will be more widely recognised in hindsight.
