Today's "kids movies" are worse than R-rated flicks of the past

The content in modern kids movies, particularly those rated "PG" and especially the animated (cartoon) films, are worse than just about anything of the PG-13 and R-rated past. While G- and PG-rated "kids movies" always have contained some "hidden" suggestive content, those of the late 2010s and 2020s have become far more noticeably crude and made the innuendos as obvious as possible.

Pixar's "Turning Red" is an example of this!

"Turning Red" is just one of the most innocent examples of innuendo in modern kids movies. There are WORSE movies out there that are quote-on-quote "made for kids". However, this one has obviously filled in the "period talk" agenda for the target audience it was supposedly "targeting", and most young parents of 5-year-olds have just seen this movie.

"Out" is an even more obvious example.

Disney has made it clear this film is about a gay couple. Now before we jump into this, I would like to make it clear that yes, I am aware, not everyone here is Christian or Catholic. And that's totally OK. As a matter of fact, the majority of the non-western (and also non-European) world is either Muslim or Hindu, with Judaism being assigned to Israel.

Because homosexual and lesbian presence still gets mixed feelings even when it comes to movies made for teens or adults, and because we are all procreated human beings, two people assigned to the same biological sex (or "gender", if you prefer) cannot reproduce. Sexual intercourse is impossible for people of the same biological gender (XX-XX, or XY-XY). Therefore it is naturally understandable that parents react negatively to such a thing occurring in a "kids movie". It is actually very hard for a child to understand sexuality, whether they are taught that orientation is a choice or not.

It's not just the sexual and sensual content we need to deal with. Although violence is dealt with to a lesser extent because while it's still fake blood, it doesn't carry the same kind of "slapstick" weight as before. Kids suffer from violence, but sexual intimacy, not so much.

The R-rated horror movies of the 1990s and early 2000s obviously have comparatively fake "blood" scenes compared to today's. But today's PG, especially those from Pixar, Viacom, and Universal Studios, are slightly worse - they look obscenely real.

Still not to a greater degree like the adult-oriented innuendo.

The only real difference between a modern PG movie and a classic 'R' movie is the lack of F-words and female nipples.

I'm not sure if you're a parent or not, but It's a parents choice as to what their child may or not watch. If they don't like today's movies then they don't have to watch them. There's plenty of other ones from the past that they can watch or there's many good books to read instead. Saying that a "kids movie" is worse than R rated movies of the past is pretty ridiculous.

Things aren't the way they used to be; the world's quickly changing and always evolving. Not everyone follows the same beliefs. If a child doesn't learn about some of these things from movies then they are going to learn about it from somewhere else. I grew up in quite a conservative Christian home and my Foster Parent's did their best to decide what they deemed to be appropriate or not.

I think IMDB mentions each part of a movie, from swearing and other stuff that's in a film. Sheltering a child too much may often lead to them not being ready or prepared for Adulthood. So before letting a child watch something a parent should do their research if they have concerns.

Honestly I think adults create problems where there doesn't need to be one. Yes, there are innuendos and hidden stuff in kids movies, but those are for adults not for kids. Adult's will understand, but it will go over a child's head. If they do have questions then you can give them an answer without even having to address certain stuff.

There's going to come a day though when children will be exposed more to homosexual relationships, periods, violence and other things. Honestly, these are all parts of the world we live in. I have a 5 year old and I do my best to teach him about things whether through tv, movies, school or whatever arises.

By the way, MANY so-called "children's movies" released in the 1960s and '70s would, if released today, be rated PG-13. One notorious example is Watership Down, which basically has the same content as The Bob's Burgers Movie.

Officially? Maybe on Netflix or Amazon Prime, but those are just the main parental reviewers sharing their opinions. Tom and Jerry wasn't considered a kids' show even back then, nor was Looney Tunes or even The Flintstones (The Simpsons/Bob's Burgers of its day)

it was different times then. the only modern movie that i disagreed with in terms of age rating is harry potter, where you actually see a ghost with half his head cut off... i would not let my child under 12 see that. maybe not even under 16.

In the First Harry Potter book, Harry is 11 and each year from books 1 to 7 are a year in the series. The movies were done as 8 movies and most children who watch them really enjoy them. The book series is the best selling book series of all time. Nearly Headless Nick (ghost) is actually quite comical and not meant to be scary at all. The evil Voldemort is the one who is scary. The books and movies are done in such a way that they progress from one to another in how scary they are. Looks like you're the same age as me and I remember them being huge. I read most of them when I was in middle school and high school and the last one I think came out in my early 20's or something. I only saw the movies years after though, so I'm not sure how it would of been like when I was younger. Books are usually better than the movies, but the movies did a pretty good job as well.

Yes, when I was a kid the movie Midnight Cowboy was rated X. I tried to get in to see it but the theater checked IDs. That movie had been on regular broadcast TV, Now kids movies are more suggestive than that.
