Was our Childhood all a lie? The Nickelodeon Scandal.

The 90's was considered one of the best times to be a kid, if you were growing up in that era. Nickelodeon, Disney, and Cartoon Network were red hot with children's programming. Getting Slimed on Double Dare was a dream for many just like going to Disneyland or on a cruise ship. Every kid wanted to at least do the Nickelodeon Toy Run at one time, going through Toys R Us and grabbing as many toys as one can in a few minutes time. But, many more wanted to actually be on TV, and for those that were on there, two men made many of these child stars lives a living hell.

First of all, I want to discuss Dan Schneider, the more obvious elephant in the room. He has been accused by Jenette McCurdy, Alexa Nichols, Katrina Johnson, and many other women of being sexist and misogynist. He made two writers on The Amanda Show split a salary, and made constant misogynistic remarks. One was fired after season 1, the other sued Dan after 4 days into season 2. He ruined Amanda Bynes' career by turning her against her parents and interfering with her life in many ways. Don't forget all the footage of feet in ICarly, Victorious, All That, and other shows on Nickelodeon. That was all Dan Schneider's doing in that mess.

But, here's a surprise that the series uncovered. Drake Bell was apparently SA'd by Brian Peck, another head honcho on the kids shows at Nickelodeon. Drake's father knew something was wrong. He even questioned it. The dude (Brian Peck) was pen pals with John Wayne Gacy, and even had a clown painting done by him!!! That is some sick shit. Plus he was the Pickle guy in All That which those pickles were always made to look like penises. There is even a scene where they fed Ray Romano pickles through a glory hole!! What the hell was Nickelodeon thinking?

But, here's my biggest question: Why are we not hearing others sides of the story of their experiences? I would love to hear Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Victoria Justice, Ariana Grande, Liz Gillies, and Miranda Cosgrove tell their sides of the story. But, the two I want to hear most is Jamie Lynn Spears and Amanda Bynes. Do you think we will ever get those sides of the story? What's to say the same shit didn't happen at Disney (Which we know it did, Just look at Bella Thorne) ? Can we go back and watch these shows anymore knowing all this happened? Let's talk about it! Can we revisit the childhood we grew up on knowing what we know now 25 to 30 years later?

Maybe not a scam (for the general public), but pretty darn sinister. Hollywood and entertainment in general is an unbelievably evil industry.

I remember watching those programs as a kid (I was born in '93) and just feeling really uncomfortable with the way girl characters in particular would be featured in these "practical joke" segments.

I was really young, so I didn't actually understand what I was looking at, but the segments always made me uncomfortable. And the amount of foot-related humor also struck me as odd.

I'm shocked that other people didn't comment on this stuff sooner.

I just felt really sad for Drake and Amanda by the end of it. Drake's dad did everything he could to try to protect his son and it still wasn't enough.

As far as the Dan situation, I'm not really sure what to think. He seemed like a real asshole who was always on some power trip. His relationships with some of the girls (particularly with Amanda) seemed a little sketchy and he was an ass to a lot of the women who worked on his shows, but a lot of the guys seemed to really like him. He obviously had his favorites and didn't like when people challenged him. As far as we know, he never physically harmed any of the kids (unless you believe certain claims), but that doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't do anything either.

I really would LOVE to hear Amanda's side of things someday.

I really wanna know who the scum was that, when drake bell's father spoke up, tried to silence him, by accusing him of being homophobic.

The parents are supposed to be advocates for their children as well.

Dan schneider, is scum, the parents should be ashamed of themselves for being silent as thier children was abused and put into unsafe environment.

Nickelodeon has the biggest blame. When the writer took them to court. They settled and covered it up. All of this could've been avoided if they did the right thing.

These children was failed by practically everyone who should've been there to protect them.

So I haven't seen this documentary but Unfortunately the entertainment industry is driven this way. Not about what is morally right but what brings in the most money. What intrigues people. A bad person who manipulative is going to see this and utilize it. Manipulate the situation to get what they want out of it. It's not going to stop until enough people put their foot down and put a stop to it and expose all the corruption. These manipulators need to be exposed and held accountable. Unfortunate American is run by how much money you have in your account and how many powerful people you have in your pocket. So as long as you have a good attorney and let's say a handful of people standing behind you that have power or know someone with power are only going to get a slap on the wrist. Unless they want to make an example out of you. It felt off to me when I was a kid, it feels even more off now. I watch back and think holy shit it's a good thing I didn't know what this meant when I was little. So yeah I don't know how to feel about it. Will watch it at some point

You're not wrong about people lying theough their teeth, especially for some publicity and a quick buck. However, there's no denying the lawsuit against Dan Schneider for discrimination, nor the multiple complaints from parents across all of his shows. Don't you don't you find it a little suspicious that Nickelodeon offered their talent and staff NDA's when Schneider was on his way out?

The multiple convicted sex offenders that worked on some of those shows which led to Drake being sexually assaulted by someone he trusted.

Some of the stories and comments in that documentary did seem a bit stretched for drama in my opinion, like the Nose Boy bit from All That.

I don't know anything about the case, I don't listen to news because its non-verifiable, everything you just said, you cannot confirm any of it. You are just parroting what others told you. Also convictions aren't evidence.

The same news outlets have said people have gone to jail for murder only to be released after being found innocent decades later, and yet people are immediately responding to rumors as if they saw it happen with their ien eyes, and its just silly.

People should just stop watching the news, its a waste of time.

Faith/trust needs to go, society needs to just not do that anymore in general.

Victims of abuse and assault all too often stay quiet because they feel like no one will believe them, they feel disgusting and gross, dint want to stir things up and keep peace, etc. Then others come and abuse the absolute shit out of the system by accusing people of assault only for it to be a fabrication brought on because they regretted doing stuff after the fact or just out of spite for the person.

Sorry but if you trust anyone's claim about anything, you're an idiot.

I'd ask for proof, and if they can't provide it, I'd tell them to stop slandering people without proof. And that its not ok to talk bad about someone without backing it up, I'd then investigate the problem myself if possible, to try to find the truth.

I'd also never let anyone else watch my children if I had any, because again, I trust no one, so that situation would be impossible.

Again I say I hope your children never have to live that around you. I'm not ignorant to the fact that there are plenty of made up cases out there. Anyone trying to slander someone else with that kind of allegation when it's false should absolutely face punishment. But to say that most of them are is pure bullshit.

I was touched by a family member. Multiple times. I had started to develop and, lucky me, one of my male family members took notice; an adult no less. I was uncomfortable from the start but I was under the impression I'd get in trouble for telling. I was 9. What proof could I even provide for my parents that it had even happened? I'd love for you to tell me that. That same family member came to visit every so often over the next 2 years and kept touching. I told my dad, finally. He didn't ask a lot of questions. He simply got up, went to him, asked him straight up if he had touched me. His uncle had that "oh shit" face, and my dad proceeded to punch him in the face and kicked him out with the threat of law enforcement if he ever came near any of us. Also messaged the entire family over it.

You might call him an idiot for it. I call him my hero for standing up for me and listening to me. More so after I got older and understood what had happened.

Its best to treat these sorts of things like rumors instead of facts. ultimately there is no way to verify if any of it actually happened, or if its just people tring to cash grab through lawsuit, or ruin a person's life because they hate them for other reasons.

Alternatively, the entire story/claim could be made up entirely by a third party.

Thats the problem with news, people sit at home and consume it thinking they can realistically trust any given source, but the reality remains that you aren't going to be able to verify any of it, simply because you weren't there.

This goes for any type of news about any subject matter, be they good, or bad news.
