You hear it all the time, ugh Taylor Swift only ever writes break up songs and disses her ex's. So let's have a look at some songs that are not about her Ex's or a relationship at all. Including some lyrics from each track!
1. Fifteen (Fearless 2009) This song is about Taylor's best friend from high school Abigail and their experiences in freshman year. While it is sort of about first love and heartbreak it's more about realizing that there's more to life than boys and dating.
"Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday But I realized some bigger dreams of mine And Abigail gave everything she had To a boy who changed his mind And we both cried"
2. Tied together with a smile (2006) written about a friend who was suffering with an eating disorder
"Seems the only one who doesn't see your beauty is the face in the mirror looking back at you You walk around here thinking you're not pretty But that's not true 'cause I know you"
3. The best day (2008) a song about her childhood and especially her mom always being by her side
"And now I know why the all the trees change in the fall I know you were on my side Even when I was wrong And I love you for giving me your eyes Staying back and watching me shine and I didn't know if you knew So I'm taking this chance to say that I had the best day with you today"
4.Ronan (2012) perhaps one of her hardest songs to listen to. Ronan was written about a 3 year old boy Ronan Thompson who was battling stage four neuroblastoma and passed away days before his 4th birthday. Ronan's mom Maya kept a blog detailing what Ronan was going though and Taylor kept up with the blog. When she heard the news about his passing she reached out to Maya with a song that she eventually ended up preforming at a stand up 2 cancer benefit. Maya is a co-writer on the song.
"What if I'm standing in your closet trying to talk to you? What if I kept the hand-me-downs you won't grow into? And what if I really thought some miracle would see us through? What if the miracle was even getting one moment with you? Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here you were my best four years I remember your bare feet down the hallway I love you to the moon and back"
5. Marjorie (2020) a song about Taylor's maternal grandmother Marjorie Finlay who was an American opera singer. Taylor even inserted some of Marjorie's singing into the track.
"And if I didn't know better I'd think you were talking to me now If I didn't know better I'd think you were still around What died didn't stay dead What died didn't stay dead You're alive, you're alive in my head What died didn't stay dead What died didn't stay dead You're alive, so alive"
6. Forever Winter (2012) about a friend who was struggling with mental health and addiction and overdosed.
"All this time I didn't know you were breakin' down I'd fall to pieces on the floor if you weren't around too young to know it gets better I'll be summer sun for you forever forever winter if you go"
7. Look what you made me do (2017) about her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian who leaked a heavily edited video of a phone call between Taylor and Kanye about his "Famous" song.
"I don't like your little games don't like your tilted stage the role you made me play of the fool no, I don't like you"
8. You need to calm down (2019) about LGBTQ+ and trolls needing to calm down.
"You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate Cause shade never made anybody less gay"
9. No body, no crime (2020) a fictional story about the narrator killing her friends husband because she suspects he killed the friend/wife.
"I think he did it but I just can't prove it I think he did it but I just can't prove it no, no body, no crime But I ain't letting up until the day I die No, no I think he did it No, no he did it"
10. Vigilante Shit (2022) about getting back at someone for doing something bad. Theory is it's about Scooter Braun for selling her discography without her permission.
"While he was doing lines And crossing all of mine Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI And I don't dress for villains Or for innocents I'm on my vigilante shh again"
