Why are most people metalheads?

It seems like most people here listen to metal. Every question about music almost always has something to do with metal and most people online seem to be metalheads.

I am in the "uncool" minority, I listen to Electronic Dance Music. A genre that most people hate because they refuse to understand it.

I think we’ve discussed this before, so I think I’ll be more blunt here and take more filters off:
— You’re playing a victim card and extremely over-exaggerating your point of view.
— You’re totally ignoring any overlap metal/metalhead have with electronic music. Thus, you’re stereotyping metal as you’re saying metalheads stereotype EDM. (Hypocrisy 1).
— The amount of people shouldn’t matter. If you like something, like it. If I like something else, it doesn’t matter. Be proud of your own music genre enough to where you don’t have to tear down others with a middle school bully mentality as well.
— You are becoming EXACTLY that which you hate when you say things like “A genre that most people hate because they refuse to understand it.” You said in a previous discussion with me that you see metalheads as kind of like elitists— people who claim they have a higher IQs or whatnot because they listen to metal. By saying the rest of the world doesn’t understand EDM, you are stating the reverse— that you are “enlightened.” (Hypocrisy #2)
— Signs would point to EDM actually being way more popular than metal. Look at spotify followings... David Guetta is number 9 at 31.6M followers. Metalica (8.7M) and Avenged Sevenfold (3.7M), some of the most popular metal bands don’t even come close to one EDM artists in terms of followers. Even if you claim something like metal being more popular than EDM, metal as oppressive majority is clearly a reach at best.
— If we’re accepting annecdotal evidence as from what “most people seem to be online,” I’d make the counterargument that I’ve seen more metal fans complain about metal subgenres and what classifies as what compared to EDM complaints. Many elitist metalheads probably wouldn’t give two shits actually what kind of genres someone listens to outside of metal simply because it’s not metal. If they do hate on anything, it’s sterotypical pop (mostly because some peeps are just anti-mainstream anything). As @Astoriana pointed out, I haven’t seen EDM bashing. I can only doubt your claims without evidence.

The data doesn’t mean there isn’t overlap though, and it certainly doesn’t mean that “most” people are metalheads.

TL;DR; I’d argue you’re wrong, being hypocritical, and if anything you’re simply spreading anti-metal propoganda.

1.) Like she said, she isn’t a mod. Mods can’t delete things either— only hide them. It’s up to admins to delete things. If they’re breaking rules they delete, if they aren’t rule breaking, they put them back. It’s in the FAQ.

2.) The only thing she actually could delete would be questions. Even if she did delete some questions of her own that wouldn’t make her a “dangerous” individual.

In any case, attacking her is dismissing the argument at hand completely. It does not offer a rebuttal to the points I made.

If it was actually removed and you got a message saying it was deleted, then it broke the rules (i. e. if you called her a insult/name) and an admin made the call to delete it. If it didn’t break any rules, it should be reinstated sometime relatively soon.

If you don’t think it broke any rules, but it was still deleted, message an admin or use the contact box (located in FAQ).

Nonetheless, this is still far from the issue at hand.

I could understand that if you made an argument and I ignored it or otherwise misconstrued it. That’d be wasting time. I would understand if I was calling you names/harassing you. That’d be wasting time, but I didn’t call you names or anything either. I’m not looking to do that either.

I’m looking to have a debate over the topic we both have opposings sides over and maybe learn different perspectives... yet you never even responded back to what the my answer to your question was. Who knows— maybe you can convince me? It’s happened before. I’m not perfect, and sometimes my logic is super flawed.

But as it stands now, I can only conclude one of two things...
1.) You are either dismissing the argument for lack of having an argument to give

2.) You simply are not interested in hearing others give an opinion that differs from your own

I frankly don’t care about the irrelevant topic discussed so far. Heck, the conclusion to that doesn’t matter. I just want to discuss the real topic

Why debate with people who are accusing me of being a liar and are so arrogant that they think they get to decide what is true and not true. You don't get to tell me whether or not my experiences are true or false.

Well, firstly, I’d say you’re right in one thing — I can’t honestly know for sure whether or not your life experiences happened for not. My doubt arose mostly since it contradicted my own life experience so much. But hey, life experiences differ.
So I agree— a debate on that would be a “waste of time.”

I can argue you’re wrong on overall trends though apart from life experiences. Let’s take it from a different angle. My life experiences say one thing, and your’s a different... so as far as I’m concerned, they cancel out. Anecdotal evidence is limited in being able to generalize anyway.

To that, I pose two questions: Why do you believe that most people seem to be metalheads apart from anecdotal experiences? And also, why do you think you generalizing your life experiences with some metalheads to a mass scale is still an accurate representation?

I'm assuming you're classing all the various genres of rock together, as there are very few people here I would really call metalheads.
I think genres like rock, metal, country, blues and pop are much more personal and relatable. The lyrics, the limitless sounds that can be produced even by the same instrument just give it a depth that computers can't replicate.
I have tried listening to edm and similar music, and I just can't get into it.

But I don't think everyone is metalheads at least I barely meet with people who likes it, but I sure know a lot who don't. Also if someone don't like a genre it doesn't mean that "they refuse to understand it". It's totally normal to have different taste in music.

I prefer metal. EDM seems to lack depth in lyrics when compared to something like hiphop/rap or metal.

You think that because you probably heard one track. You probably don't know how diverse EDM is.

EDM is my second most listened to genre of music. Metal, EDM, Classical in that order. It is diverse which is why some people find that a certain type of EDM is not to their liking and dismiss the genre all together.
