What do you think of Jean Valjean firing Fantine in the BBC-show?

Before Fantine got a job on a factory owned by Valjean he asked her in a job interview if she had children and a husband. She lied and said she had no children or boyfriend. The truth was her ex-boyfriend had left her, but she had a child outside of wedlock. After working there a while one of her coworkers found out she had a child outside of wedlock and told Valjean it. He fired Fantine for both lying to him, having a child outside wedlock and for fucking around with people. She only cared about having a job to make money so she could take care of her daughter Corsette.

My Opinion:
I understands why Valjean wanted to fire her because it was stupid of her having sex with her boyfriend before marriage and especially since there were a higher risk of him leaving when unmarried in addition to lying and doing stupid stuffs in the factory. But Fantine wanted to improve herself and take care of her child, so he should let her keep the job and she may have learned her lesson too. Adoption wasn't common at that time. Fantine did at least avoid both abortion and put the child in the wood to die, so the fact she wanted to follow ethical rules is enough that she deserved a second chance. Firing her would punish an innocent child too, not only Fantine. It was obviously not the child's fault her mother fucked around. #LesMiserable #Fantine #JeanValjean

Wow, people have little sympathy with Valjean. Although he should keep in consideration she had a child that shouldn't be punished for her mother's mistake, it's still understandable he wanted to fire her. If Fantine just could keep her leg shut and obey the rules, this wouldn't be a problem. She should wait with sex until marriage. She wasn't a good mother either and didn't visit her kid often enough. Fantine was very dumb. It's easy to blame Valjean. She didn't have to lie or fuck around.
