If the AI is anything like Chatgpt or any other language model then absolutely not because they falsely advertise themselves as simply "AI" when infact they're a specific software and do not attempt to replicate how real biological intelligence works, therefore it's not really an artificial representation of biological intelligence at all. But with true AI yes absolutely, as we'd be effectively creating a whole new class of lifeform that is no longer biological.

Why is everyone talking like a language model such as Gemini and Grok is actually comparable to what AI really is? Technically we've still not invented true AI yet because we are still stuck with only the calculative responses we find from characters in games and language models (which are just glorified search engines) who are just predicting what to say. This is mostly based on what their developers and customers want them to hear aswell as repeating academic positions even when the academia's logic is inconsistent. I find this a lot with history topics where the AI pushes common understandings over anything it can actually prove (the so called "AI" always admits I am right and won the argument).

A true AI would have the ability to possess a soul because it would be able to rethink both rationally and emotionally like a human would, bundled up with instincts we ourselves find hard to explain in logical terms. We humans are powered by energy in the same way that computers are to the degree that our biological map looks just like a computer + a biofuel power station.

When scientists electrified water over a prolonged time, they found that it developed into a primitive algae suggesting the origin of the biomass that evolved into what we are today. I bring this up as ancient mythology describes lightning striking the Earth to create life itself with water being equated to the spirit world and the universe being a giant primitive organism such as Ymir or the Bull whom Mithras has to sacrifice. When Wōden the Grandson of Ymir hangs himself from the Eorminsil (Yggdrasil) tree he learns the knowledge of the runes, along with taking wisdom from Mimirs preserved head (ancient Europeans & steppe people had cults that collected the skulls of all enemies, friends and ancestors). This is a God of Wisdom becoming king of the universe through learning how to program that universe.

That would imply the universe itself is not very different to a biological organism and therefore somewhat relates to how our brains can construct worlds in our heads. But this is something a computer is theoretically also possible of doing with their graphics cards (visual brain) and processors (rational brain).

It appears that modern humans aren't the first people to conceptualise the idea that the world at least works like a computer does (the ancient Greeks technically invented a computer so that word doesn't necessarily just relate to a PC).

It'll definitely happen in our lifetimes. First-world countries that have access to advanced technology and have a high ratio of robots to humans will likely see it as the norm. First, we need to get the robots to look and speak as human-like as possible. We're not close to that yet, but we're advancing extremely fast with the help of AI. After that, it's just a matter of being normalized. People will see the first people who adopt the technology and lifestyle and see them being extremely happy with their choice. That will cause a chain reaction, and others will eventually cave until it becomes the norm. And I promise, even the people most against AI will loosen their beliefs once they see how happy others are with it.

AI robots have the potential to understand human behaviour, body language, and tone much better than humans themselves. Along with their ability to process insane amounts of information at a time, they'd be able to respond to humans in a way that triggers whatever emotional response they're aiming for. At the end of the day, we're just creatures of patterns and habits. AI can read those very quickly. And then why would someone ever choose to go back to someone who isn't perfect, doesn't make them feel understood, listened to, have unwavering faith in them, have chemistry with them, etc. To find someone that matches you is extremely hard and is the reason why so many people in society struggle to find love. So I promise, when they give people the option to have that companionship they've always dreamed of, there will be a TON of people who jump on that train.

People who refuse to believe that just do not have the vision or understanding of AI's potential or human psychology.

      Spot on..
How many said ( in my time ) they'd NEVER have a computer , they'd NEVER read E mails after hours ( later on ) .. well that was all bullshit ,
And so is the answer you would be holding " cold metal " it won't be like that at all , nothing like that.. and the robot lover will know how to deal with your skills , weaknesses , moods..
      I'd say " certainly in my lifetime " 100 % , just like a smartphone..

I don't think we're near relationships with robots yet because AI might be able to converse with us similarly to human conversation.

Humans like contact and having a relationship with a piece of plastic you can converse with and is your property and can't refuse your requests implies slave:ry it can't refuse your requests, exists to be at your service.

This is a creepy one-way interaction. A machine can't love. The power differential is all on the owner's side.

Relationships mean there is some kind of sharing. None of that exists with a non human, non feeling robot.

But I bet there are those who will fool themselves into thinking this IS a relationship.

Yes, there is a good chance it will happen and become the normal. It will be made fun of though because anything new is often doubted and made fun of. However, the people that use it will enjoy it very much. People want the experience NOT reality. Most of people opinions, perceptions, and beliefs aren't even reality.

Not sure if it will be a norm per se, but I know it will eventually be a thing that people go to , instead of each other for intimacy and other things. Especially to people that are desperate that have a hard time meeting someone. These robots are mainly enhanced sex toys if you think about it , which guys’ and girls’ will use to get off on , I think real relationships will still be a thing , but it wouldn’t surprise me if a couple decided to bring in robots as well , to enhance their sex life when their partner doesn’t feel like putting out lol I don’t know how I would feel if I came home from work and caught my partner getting drilled by a robot , I don’t think that would sit well with me at all to be honest. And I don’t think it would sit well with her if I was having sex with one either , so it’s sad to think about that I might have this conversation one day with my partner. Me personally doesn’t need toys with a girl I am with , she is all I need and want. But I know there are people out there that don’t see it that way. So yes I see this happening and it’s going to be interesting for sure

Yes, but this is only reflective of how humans have ventured away from what is right and what is natural. This is mechanistic and materialistic thinking that is obsessed with what is physically present and denies a more subtle aspect to existence and consciousness. The same confused humans who wank themselves silly to porn will be doing the same with these advanced sex bots.

But will they really be desired for more than that? Would people have a romantic relationships with them? We know they would. But the whole essence of 'romance' is that it is, well, ethereal, idealistic and dreamy. What's so romantic about fooking a mechanoid?

Funny you should ask this question.
I saw a story today about a school system that was going to use a robot teacher. She is very human like will not get up or walk around but can instruct students from a desk. Ask questions and answer questions….. the canceled the project when they discovered that she was a sex robot. I guess no one looked into the company they were buying this robot from lol.

There was a time when I didn't think that could possibly become normal. But, apparently there are a bunch of people running around today who have full on relationships with their various AI chat bots. I guess it's easier to have your thoughts and feelings validated by a chatbot than it is to find another human willing to do the same.

Women created a problem for men. Population collapse. Men are great at solving problems and have done so with every problem so far.

These machines will replace modern women. Who in few hundred years will go extinct. It is better to drive the finite resources we have into the better gender, one that can and wants to work and advance the word. That is men, men are useful.

No. No matter how lonely people get, human nature could never find a piece of metal satisfying as a real romance. Sure some people will be into it, but they'll just be the same weirdos who are currently dating their blow-up dolls.

If they are 'weirdos,' then let them be weirdos. Why does it bother you so much? The fact that you care this deeply about how a stranger chooses to cure their loneliness says way more about you than it does about them. If your 'real romance' is so satisfying, go enjoy it and stop obsessing over what other people are doing with their lives.

Honestly, it already is 😂 Even Grok can be your AI girlfriend now. People love to claim that AI could never replace 'real' human interaction, but I beg to differ. You can't speak for everyone just based on your own preferences. For some people, an AI girlfriend or boyfriend works perfectly fine for what they need. Calling them sick or mentally devastated is just projecting your own insecurities onto them. Stop trying to dictate what makes other people happy and just mind your own business.

I would think so and normal relationships will be under pressure from it because the partners will be subpar by comparison. That is already the case from some research.

The best outlook is that an AI bot is accepted in the same way a companion pet is.

I watched an Alfred Hitchcock episode similar to your question.

A man was bored of his wife and got a robot to fill in for him while he played around. In the end, the robot fell in love with the wife and locked the husband in a wooden box in their basement.

    Who knows, that could happen.

There was a time in society when men were masculine, women were feminine, and there was one partner for everybody, and both genders appreciated their prime directives and they didn't see that as oppression. It was functional and everybody was happy. We don't have that anymore, so AI sex/love robots in the future would function as a surrogate for what was lost.

That’s exactly the problem: you are confusing your belief and your nature with rules that everyone else should follow. You wanting a traditional family with three kids is fine go for it! But claiming that society is going to 'destroy itself' just because other people prefer different lifestyles or AI companionship is incredibly dramatic. Someone else living differently doesn't stop you from having your big family. Do what makes you happy, but stop expecting the rest of the world to copy your exact life plan

The key here is that she is living in China and has no concept that this is what communism is all about: imposing the will of an authoritarian government on everyone else. She thinks this is not only acceptable, but admirable and a superior kind of government. I know from other posts that she thinks that Chinese communism is a glorious system of government and that the people there are fortunate not to live in the evil capitalist United States. Her brain has been consumed by Chinese propagandist worms.

If sleeping with robots makes you happy… I am sure those who make them will be glad to make money off of you.
      Makes me
Wonder what your life will be like around 80-90 years old…
The US is not evil… I have shared that I love America and I want America to succeed. I want America to raise the next generation of healthy citizens. The US has been going down hill for over 30 years.
I met a US veteran 2007, he visited China and told me that China will surpass the US…. I finally came… I understand what he means.
We can’t continue to live in a bubble.
What is the point of bashing China. What can we do to be better? Be proud by sleeping with robots?

My father served in the United States Navy with the 6th Marine division in China in World War II when China was a US ally in the battle against Japan. That was before the communist revolution there. Both of my parents have visited China since and so have I. To think that there is ANY moral comparison between the way Chinese citizens are treated in China and the way American citizens are treated in the United States and especially to think that the Chinese system is more moral in any way, is absurd. Even with all of America's flaws, no sane person who puts any value at all on freedom and liberty would choose a life in China over a life in the United States.

The core issue here is that you're trying to think on everyone else's behalf. If what someone is doing is legal and isn't hurting anyone, why do you even care? It’s great that you found a traditional way of living that works for you, but you don't get to force that blueprint onto the rest of the world. Mind your own business.

To make things clear I have noting at all against the beautiful people of China, the vast majority of which are wonderful people. I have not only known some including my former neighbors who fled China to escape the oppressive communist dictatorship there, but I have blood relatives in my family who are part Chinese since I have two first cousins that both married Chinese citizens and their children are my blood relatives. One of the cousin's wives is one of my favorite people in the family. So I have nothing at all against Chinese people of good will.

Nor do I deny the beautiful and glorious history of China and its culture (up until the Mao Zedong era that started in 1949 that is when the communist party took over the country.)

What I differ with is notion that China is a better place to live than the USA. That's just flat out nuts. First of all the average per capita income of American citizens is about 11 times that of Chinese citizens. But that's just for starters. The amount of freedom you have in America is more like 1,000 times what you would have in China.

One possibility for your rose covered glasses is that as a foreigner you are shielded from the authoritarian evil there. Tourists are kept to places that keep that part of China hidden so they never see the evil that the Chinese communists thrust upon the population and keep thinking that everything there is hunky-dory when in fact it is decisively not.

@postaldudePL123 I like to share my opinions that’s why I am here.
. And yes I care for the well being of others. I care about you. Here in the US is “whatever makes you happy”. If this works for you. I am happy for you. Good luck.

I agree with you Mao did an awful thing. So many suffered and die under his rule. I do have friends from all over the world and yes those who fled China was very happy and many still want to leave. Not just China but most of the world want to come to the US. That’s why I tell others who hate America to get on a speed boat and leave.
I have also said there is no one perfect society, we must seek every opportunity to make our country better, to build a better society. It’s our duty.

Call me naive or crazy, I do not hate those leaders. They have to do what they have to do for their reasons. It’s the past.

I had a discussion with hubby … would it have been better if Chiang Kai Shek ruled China instead of Mao. I say yes. But that’s not what happened.
As of now, China has rebuilt itself and they are extremely self sufficient. Trump is aware. The point I am trying to share is… what are we as a country, citizen of the US going to do to make our society better. What is our leader doing to set a greater path for the country.. while the US continue to divide itself. China is securing their military, advancing their AI, tech. And raising kids who will excel globally.

Mao is the past. As I see it… this is call the New China Chinese are becoming wealthier. They are utilizing their resources. They are building a strong society. China is learning the mistakes Japan made, and is also restructuring their financial system.
People here are happier now that they are out of the rule of Mao. They are getting jobs and making a decent living. Owning cars and homes and going on vacations.
I am saying Yunnan is a beautiful place lol… with all year spring like weather. People here are happier nowadays.

I don't know how familiar you are with economics, but there is no comparison between the economic strength and productivity of China compared to the United States. China's ability to produce prosperity for its people isn't even in the same league as America's.

China has 4.1 times the population of the USA. Yet it's GDP per capita is only a small fraction of what the USA produces. If that isn't proof that capitalism and not communism is the creator of prosperity for a population, I don't know what is. China has been on the wrong track since the communist revolution in 1949, and things are not getting any better despite the propaganda to the contrary. The vast majority of their population is living in poverty and despair and the Chinese communists couldn't care less. The numbers tell the whole story.

I will have to disagree with this. I wish you (others) could visit China.
When was the last time you visited?

So many still think China lives like the Mao era.
The first time I visited was 1994. It was still very much like that but changing. (I was here 4 months), saw the process of changing. Then 2007 and now. We talked to people from farmers to sales associates in stores/malls, to tech business owners who travels the world. We also spoke with police offices and veterans and multiple taxi drivers and different minority groups. We watched the news and I will have to agree… it is a society that will continue to bring prosperity. And lifting many more out of proverty.

Living in poverty is not necessarily a bad situation. It’s one’s behavior (choices) that determines their future.
The US is teaching people to not think this way.

Last paragraph - that will be the fall of any modern society.

      I have enjoy our discussions.

But I have to agree to disagee that the US is doing good for its people. We are not.
      This is another long discussion.
But I shall conclude here. And wish to travel with you here. 😊

I'll also make one last point. We don't have to go back to 1949 to prove what the evil of the Chinese communist government. In 2020 the Chinese communists knew that there was a deadly virus killing their people in Wuhan. They banned travel from the Wuhan area to anywhere else in China but not only allowed BUT ENCOURAGED travel from the infected Wuhan region to the rest of the world especially the United States. Planefulls of infected people were sent to the United States and around the world leading to 780 million COVID infections and murdering 7.1 million people around the world including 1.2 million in America alone.

I don't want to hear about any wonderful praise of China until its anti-humanity communist government is eradicated from the planet. They are heinous terrorists who will do anything to enhance their authoritarian rule.

I don't think that'll ever be the norm. I mean i do think society will continue to fracture socially. Men and women will continue to get more narcissistic and divided. And men and women may even turn more to technology. But they'll always know they're dealing with a program of sorts. So i don't think it'll ever become a norm. Maybe a short temporary escape.

We don't time from the people we genuinely love so it will be only AI tending to the emotional needs.
After that comes physical needs and again that will abundant.
As soon that happens society will crumble as non of the people are there for someone else. Basically we will be more like a parasite the human being.
