Lolz I watch Lucifer too. One time my wife came in the room and pointed out how incredibly unlikely it is that every single cop at a police station would be one of the Pretty People, even in Los Angeles.
So when I read this question, I tried to think of shows I've been really into where the characters aren't played by beautiful people. The Wire came to mind. Also, Peaky Blinders. Maybe Vikings, although I'd trip over my own dick racing to bang Lagertha.
Never watched Vikings. Any good?
I like it a lot.
Might have to dust off my fire stick and put it to use lol
What are you talking about dennis is the golden god, he is perfection
Hahaha.
Why do you think they cast specific individuals for certain roles? To appeal to the populace that has been conditioned to think that only certain features on various people are attractive.
And honestly, no. I watch shows because I find them appealing. I think the only cute one is the one with the glasses. I also tried watching Lucifer but I couldn't stand his accent.
Lol I think I'm into every single female on the show. You gotta love his accent, that's part of his whole charm 😁
Nope... lol. I tried because the premise was interesting but his voice grated my nerves. I haven't tried it since... lol
In my opinion yes I will watch it, but you know in tv or any series the looks ALWAYS matter (sadly) but the hotter you look, the more people will watch the movie or the series (on Netflix for example) being beautiful as an actor or hot it’s a bonus nowadays (even this gives young people a bad image for the world and people and their standards)
I hate to use almost all of twilight as an example but the two leads in that were absolutely horrible. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson might have been the absolute worst choices to pick, but the movies thrived cuz every little girl was either team Edward or team werewolf guy... forget his name in the movie, Tyler lauttners character... another ahitty actor that thrived cuz of his looks lol
It was a popular book, so I guess the story had some merit. Never read it, but that was the most popular movie series that had no talent in the movies.
The first or second book were out before the movies actually started I believe, but my point was all those characters sucked but we're somewhat attractive. I guess Taylor lauttner is good looking but I don't see the fascination with the other two.

It wouldn't be as appealing, but I would still watch it. Love Lucifer by the way.
I didn't give it a chance at first, but then I caved and binged all 4 seasons this past week, and I actually liked it a lot
Lol I had a lot of vacation time, and time on my hands
I do on a regular basis. Sitcoms should be included because they often do have a disproportionately "attractive" cast if it's not centered around a standup comedian. How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Two and a Half Men, Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place, Scrubs, etc. are all examples of this (and there are probably some modern ones, but I stopped watching sitcoms in 2011 other than Last Man Standing so my frame of reference is a little dated).
Even when it's a vehicle for a standup comedian they often fill out the cast with a suspicious number of "attractive" people. Most guys don't have three hot daughters, a handsome son, and another daughter that will probably grow up to be hot like Cliff Huxtable did. In real life all of the kids of a family are either average looking or there's a hot one with average siblings. Seinfeld had Jerry, George, and Kramer, none of whom are conventionally attractive, but it also had Elaine and all of those guys dated much more attractive women than you might expect a trio like that to get in real life.
I use to watch How I Met Your Mother and, while everyone I know had one or two characters they fawned over, I didn't think any of them were much to look at. Blue Bloods doesn't have a single cast member I consider attractive. Neither did The Mentalist, Frasier (other than some of Frasier's girlfriends, but they rarely stayed around for more than a few episodes), Raising Hope, Criminal Minds (other than some one shot characters specific to a single episode), or Chicago PD.
Conversely, I had fantasies about every cast member of Friends other than Ross and Phoebe (and yes, that includes Gunther), but no matter how attractive I thought most of the cast was I never watched more than one or two episodes per season, vainly hoping for decent character development, because frankly I found everyone on that show to be annoying.
I find it annoying
I prefer real looking people who can act and have to act bc they can't rely on their hotness to carry them through the bland parts
The best actors are finny looking of not ugly. Certainly not conventionally hot.
I immediately expect the acting to suck when the cast is conventionally attractive
I enjoy watching Lucifer.. I recognize the cast is meant to be hot but I think they all look a bit quirky - they just have a lot of make up
I think they were chosen for the fact they all look kind of rag-tag and Chloe looks like half vampire/ I don’t think that was an accident
Her daughter in my opinion is theist evenly aesthetically pleasing character
In any case I don’t have any favorite actors who are hot. They can’t help but fall back on it and it disrupts their acting efforts
It's funny that you mentioned makeup. If you look up the actress that portrays maze... a lot of the pictures of her on Google and social media are her without makeup. I thought she looked familiar and I've seen her before in a different show or movie.. wasn't stalking her haha
Honestly there's one show I'm currently watching where I'm having a hard keeping up coz the main guy is more than handsome (he's the reason why I wanted to watch this show), but the main girl he's supposed to be all lovey dovey with is just way off his level. She looks like she has no eyelashes and that's making her look sick, I struggle watching her scenes.
In this case the story line isn't great either but I remember when I was younger and Teen Wolf was starting to air, I had to stop watching because even though I loved all characters and the storyline, Tyler Posey's chin just used used to make me so uncomfortable...
I don't want to sound shallow here. That was not my point, but I look at that movie that just came out.. ummmm... I'm trying to think of the title, it's with the real heavy girl from the show this is us, and her husband is the guy from the movie sweet home Alabama. And it's not believable at all that he plays her hubby. It's the movie where there kid dies and then he magically comes to life.
Very good question. Yes I would if it was well written. In fact I haven't seen a really good looking character in a long time.
Lucifer is my favorite show. It is exceptionally well written. The cast has been selected very carefully.
Good looking or not, the Lucifer character has been selected so well and acts so well in his role that he fits right in. So, he kind of really resembles a devil, a charming one, and that being said, like Chloe, I can't decide to crush or not to crush. But I love how the character has been developed. And everytime I watch the show it gives me cause to think: Wow! Someone finally decided to really use their brain to write the script and created something well thought out and very original instead of the usual crappy cliches. I really enjoy it.
I also loved watching The Tudors because of Henry Cavill. His new Netflix, The Witcher is also coming up that I will only watch because of him. I also saw lots of action and comics that I never watch, just because of him. He's a really great actor, specially shines in The Tudors, and he is the only really good looking character I've seen in all my eternity.
I believe that's the one based off of the video game. If that's the case, I'd give it a try too. Those games are fantastic.
The Witcher game? I'm so not good at video games. Can't even win Super Mario Bros. Ha ha. You ever tried it?
I just watched the last episode of Lucifer. Except for one little flaw, it was even closed very neatly and everything came together very smoothly.
Would depend on the show in question, but no probably not. I think the idea of making fat or otherwise unattractive people into main characters (depending, again, on the character in question, as sometimes that's okay) is a dicey thing-- it has to be done right. If it's done in a way that pushes a false narrative that being fat/obese is like normal or okay or attractive or something, then that's stupid. If it's done in a realistic way that takes most-people-not-finding-them-attractive into account in the show, then that's fine.
They're out there, a simple google search will provide you with hundreds of them...

I know they are, but it's rare lol. I'm starting to notice a lot of the mail women working around me are pretty sexy
Lol That blond is ridiculous.
Yeah, I think there are a lot of shows that use average looking people and I like them, they feel more realistic, from what I can remember off the bat: Shameless, Fear the Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, even Game of Thrones actually, yes there are some very attractive characters and there are those average looking ones - just like in real life.
I dunno bout shameless. Fiona will always have a place in this guys heart lol. She's beautiful
Of course you could, but realistically every show that I've watched that has had average or ugly people on it as labeled by the show itself, has been a comedy, which speaks to your point about it being okay in comedy but generally no where else. I think most are hard pressed to think of a show where they didn't find one of the leads attractive and yet they watched for seasons at a time. We've grown accustomed due to specific casting which is out of our hands, to want attractive leads and like the friend can be average/ugly. Basically every tv show and movie is set up that way or they just flat out cast all attractive characters.
Yes, i watch stuff like family guy no ones attractive in that. If a tv programs only bringing viewers in by having a good looking cast obviously the writers aren't to good. Some of the best TV programmes right now have nothing to do with hiw sexy the cast is
Lol that's a cartoon and a comedy. I love South Park and if I was into one of the characters.. I'd have some issues to say the least
Never saw it. But I loved breaking bad and I was just talking to another dude on here about it. I agree that show broke all norms, and was great because of the acting and storylines alone
Sadly in the Entertainment Industry especially TV & Movies Beauty is what keeps the Lights On...
If the Writing and Talent is there then yes I would still watch it. But TV & Movies are my escape from Reality so having Sexy People to stare at doesn't hurt especially when their acting isn't that great (I'll say he sycks as an Actor but fun to look at so it's excusable).
Name a great show that has absolutely no attractive people and I'll tell you. I can't name one. Even if you find one. Are you saying none of them are models? Or none of them are even remotely attractive? Because there are plenty of good shows where no one was a model, but were attractive people.
That was the point I was trying to make.. other then comedy and maybe a reality show or two, there is always overly attractive people. Mike and Molly and breaking bad are the only ones that come to mine. I'm sure there are more and are the exceptions
She's cute in the picture. I honestly don't remember her. Was she the woman distributor? Walters wife wasn't ugly by no means either. I wouldn't say she was insanely hot, but she was ok
Yeah, if the characters were written well, I'd watch it if it was just regular people. I've never really cared how attractive someone was in a TV show as long as their looks aren't the character's major trait. As for sex scenes, as long as their average and the scene is done tastefully, go ahead.
They have a show called Lucifer? haha! OH maannnn!
Hmm, I haven't seen a TV show in so long. Last couple i watched regularly was thats 70's show and 2 and a half men. I watched it for the comedy, although 2 and a half men always had sexy guests, that wasn't why i watched it. If everyone was average, it would still be hilarious
Lol. Not much of a TV guy huh? That 70s show was good but it was on when I was in high school...15 years ago haha
That's a good thing tho. I watch to much
Yes ofcourse, i watch TV shows for the story not the characters apperances.
I absolutely love things like Stargate SG1 and while the badguys had explainable attractive characters (They only take hosts from the finest of humans) the normal cast is actually very normal.
I am actually way more likely to watch a show if the cast is average looking.
Riverdale annoys me because most of the cast do not even look like everyday high schoolers. It isn't an accurate portrayal.
I love this Lebanese show about Hezbollah and the war against Israel because the entire cast look like every day average citizens.
Sure. It seems that American TV is more obsessed with casting super attractive and physically perfect actors than over here in UK. British TV is full of not-very-attractive actors, it's more about the writing and the humour and the pathos, we don't care whether they're flashing their pearly whites all the time or if they have symmetrical faces.
Breaking bad, doctor who, criminal minds, and black mirror are all drama shows with normal looking people i do watch black mirror and some doctor who often. Ugly people are not often in TV shows unless it's a comedy like the office or big bang theory.
Yeah that is kind of what makes a movie or a show not realistic, take a tour through Walmart if you want to see regular people, not sure if the show or movie would interest us if people weren’t attractive in them. Reminds me of the movie “Last Action Hero” where this kid got sucked into this action movie and tried to explain to the main character he was just in a movie and while in a Blockbuster video store pointing out that there were no unattractive people anywhere
People of walmart. com is one of my guilty pleasures when I'm bored lol
I used to love that movie when I was young
Yeah it was fun to watch
I think Lucifer is one of the rare shows where literally every character is overly attractive. But I would watch one with less attractive characters. I know it's old, but I love the show Frasier. I only really thought Daphne and Roz were the attractive ones on there, and even then they were dressed pretty average. Another good one is We The People or another show called The Good Doctor. Both shows have average and attractive actors.
I used to hate Frazier when I was younger. But when I got older, I learned to appreciate it more. Who was the English girl on there... Daphne? She was cute
It is just the way it is with these kind of shows I could care less how the guys look but yea I wanna see hot girls over fat ones. But look at Sopranos most of the guys were fat and Carmella was ugly and Ginny Sac was fat so I mean you don't need an attractive cast all the time and it works.
"I'm watching Lucifer as we speak, and I thought to myself... every main character in this show is extremely good looking, too good looking "
I 'm suprised by this question. Because I said it to my friend exactly.
it is not case for every show. But Attractiveness can be a reason to watch. I can not deny it.
The dude who plays lip is kinda average looking.
Actually I usually like TV characters who aren’t as attractive but average. More realistic.
Bryan Cranston understands this. If you follow the breaking bad, better call Saul and sneaky Pete series you see LOTS of normal people who ACT normal. The writers were more in touch with reality... but they just put these people in extraordinary scenarios
I agree breaking bad was just an exception for everything. That was a show that relied on amazing acting. I don't think there was one character on there that was overly attractive at all. Never watched better call Saul though
Better call Saul is very similar. The plot is actually more mundane yet entertaining because of the acting skills and real life struggles.
I prefer shows with realistic people and not super models but I don't like watching shows with a lot of fat people - maybe if 5-10% are fat it would be fine - but if 80% of the cast is fat - I won't watch it.
Like I said if it's a comedy, I'll watch anything. Mike and Molly comes to mind. It's not one of my favorites, but it's about two people who met in a support group for overeaters. I'll watch that when it's on
I watch every show that I can binge watch.
I had a Vampire Diaries period (don't laugh) and I was watching because of the plot (bad plot) and THE THREE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE UGLY. Nina Dobrev has improved to me but the guys... Wax faces?
I think he's overrated. And I love to act and he was really really bad
I never saw vampire diaries, but I know who Ian sommerhalser is, and if he's ugly then I wish I could be that ugly lol
Not my type. Like Alain Delon young no face expression. Guys are better when they don't look like a Madame Tussaud statue
He's way more attractive and have more facial expressions with his wrinkles
I watch shows that i find interesting, with good acting and story. So i don't care how good looking or hot the characters are in a show that much.
Actually i find it disturbing if all the characters are hot and good looking. I can't watch a show like that.
Yes, I would, have, and still do. I don’t think I recognize how attractive the characters are as much as how good the plot of the show is, as it relates to how likely it is that I would watch or keep watching a show.
Most British shows put the story above the look of the characters or they will only have 1-2 good looking actors. I’ve watched British shows since I was a kid
Was their version of shameless and the office actually better? I heard both were a little funnier, but I never watched em
I only saw a little of their office long ago & it was better. Their Only Human was better too. Some of their shows can suck tho but I guess it’s less likely than with US shows. Probably cause it’s harder to get their shows approved & their actors tend to be more experienced on average
Glad im not alone here. I literally need eyecandy, at least one romantic couple, and a good storyline to function. This is why i couldnt enjoy that show Mr. Robot. He wasn't cute at all
Is Mr robot the one with the dude in the movie about queen?
Yea lol
Yeah I tried watching that a little bit ago, but it was way too much for my brain to function. It confused the hell out of me
I didn't make it past ep 1
To be fair, lucifer being attractive is part of the narrative as he was often described by biblical scholars as having an attractive form. Same thing with demons, plus they can change their appearance?
To answer the question, yes.
100% would watch a show with non stereotypically attractive people I watch shoes because I'm interested in the plot not for the cast that's just an added benefit
Well Chernobyl has become one of my favourite TV shows and none of the characters are attractive. One of them isn't horrible looking, but nobody stands out as being above averagely attractive.
Shows with good looking actors don’t need to be of the same quality as shows with regular looking actors to keep you interested and entertained. It is basic human psychology. You see attractive people, you want to keep watching them.
I agree. Not really fair. Sort of proves that life sucks that way lol
If the show is good, idc how attractive the actors are
I would definitely watch a show no matter how the people looked as long the show was good I myself wouldn't watch a show if it wasn't good but the characters were attractive.
Yes. I don't care much about how the characters look. I gotta like the plot or else it's a no for me.
I personally don't find most people attractive. I care about their characters and how funny/interesting they are.
I agree with you. It's just hard to find a show that doesn't rely on looks as much as acting skills. It's sad
Yeah so what? If they entertain me, or have the talent to keep invested in the show of course I'd watch, I've seen shows and movies where actors are drop dead attractive but can't act for shit and make change the channel
I don't ever catch myself watching Lucifer or any show just because I hypothetically find anyone in the show attractive.
I've been a massive Top Gear fan for years now, and I don't find any of them attractive
Sometimes I watch “Geordie Shore”, so yeah I would, lol 🤣🤣🤣🤮🤮🤮
I would find that difficult.
Crushing on some hot guy from the show is part of fun from watching a TV show
I would. To me, it's more about the plot than the eye candy. I prefer books.
And what is the last book you read? Not saying I don't believe ya, just looking to start reading again and would like a recommendation. Just nothing about spirituality or femminism lol
Yes, I judge the actors only on the basis of their acting skills, intact I get super annoyed when I see good looking plastics who can't act as per the demand of the role!
Like James Franco. I don't know if he's stoned, constipated or thinking hard about something. His squinting drives me nuts. I don't know how he gets all of the roles he does
I would but... It must have a good narrative, does Lucifer have good narrative?
Other series like the end of the fxxcking world don't need a sooo attractive characters.
Yeh I think so. The devil decides to come to earth. And he is morally conflicted between being good or bad. A lot more to it. Its based on a comic.
Yeah. I don't pick things to watch based on if or not the cast is hot enough that's fucking absurd
Yes? Plus I think it's a bad thing how overly gorgeous the characters always are, even the ones who are supposed to be "bland"... No wonder society is so superficial.
Yeah I don't care lol like the hangover movie was great and the only guy who was kinda cute was Bradley cooper
Absolutely. I don't care about what the characters look like
Update: it doesn't matter if people are ugly in drama series
They dont show ugly people on TV shows or films TV series
Unless its only to make fun of them and entertain others better looking people
Yes thats true but its how it is
I used to watch local shows all the time and the characters were mostly average, the stories were not the best.
What would qualify as a local show?
A series which was created and recorded by people in your own country.
Would've people watched GoT if the characters were the book version? True fans would've, maybe it would've even made the show better.
Having a show with regular people does make the show more relatable and "real", but is it as nice to look at?
I watch the BBC quite a bit so yeah I've watched a lot of unattractive people act.
Yeh I've been watching animal planet and discovery quite a bit too lol. But ever since I discovered Steve Irwin's daughter on there... I started watching it more lol. She's beautiful
That describes most of the British television shows that I have seen.
They seem to make a point of casting unattractive people. 🤣
I would specifically watch a TV show if they deliberately used unattractive actors.
Lucifer is totes rad! Yeah, Good Omens for starters. Also I didn't think anyone was attractive on Umbrella Academy. U?
I would have to check what umbrella academy is lol. I'm bored and have nothing going on.. I'll check out the cast and let ya know lol
Kate Walsh still got it... as long as she don't have that haircut from 13 reasons why going on haha
I don't think Douch is good looking. Lol I would watch anything if it's good, no matter what people look like.
I didn't think he was a good looking dude, but then they showed him with his shirt off and I'm man enough to say that his body looked like a gay scientist built him in his lab lol. He's pretty jacked
No. You're right. I was just surprised he was that built. Still like to throat punch his character though. Lol
It's hollywood. It's not meant to be realistic. It's the same reason why you're not going to see a 5'1 balding, fat neckbeard be cast as superman or batman. No one will want to see it.
I'd like it if more people where less attractive, it's distracting, I'm trying to enjoy the plot (being a fan of the comic) and all I can see is Chloe's lips.
Her lips only makes her that much sexier lol. Trying as hard to not sound like a creep while I say that haha
I really love Lucifer but Tom Ellis isn't that handsome in my opinion he looks like an average guy
Sorta fits the tall, dark, and handsome vibe. I think he's like 6'4 lol
Yeah, if i only watch shows with hot characters, why watch Rick and Morty? Or any animated show for that matter? Because i want to fuck Lisa? No.
LMAO Why in bloody hell would anyone wanna fuck an animated character? I said no comedies, and figured no one would think of cartoons. I know anime is still big, don't get it myself... but actual people were the ones I was going for bro
I was mostly getting at the fact that on almost every show but comedies the characters have to be attractive. Why do you think that is, and would you be less inclined to watch said show
I know. That was the one show I agreed with everybody on. The story and acting was the big draw.
