its been going on since hollywood made its first flick... i would suggest if you didn't take the crap they spew so seriously they would infact lose their influence paradoxically
I don't care cause the actors they selected are excellent at what they do. They didn't just select some random a-list celebs to play these parts they have A-listers. I think it's more so about the acting skills and who plays the part better during auditions than the color of the person.
It's fucked up. Mostly black people think they have to remake everything with all black characters. They have their own fucking channel BET. You can bet your ass they'd go crazy if any other race, especially the white people, started their own network with all white shows.
Hollywood has been whitewashing remakes for years, so I see no problem with them changing races for remakes. People only start to notice now because of the whole little mermaid debacle, but they don't have the same energy when they give a poc role to a white person.
Okay... So just want to point out that Koriandy'r is an alien race and doesn't count... For everything else... Idc so long as the entertainment is entertaining to me, and I'm not one to nitpick over things as simple as skin color.
I'm not racist but when things are set out a certain way, i. e. a remake/animation or anything describing that character visually or via text, should be consistent with the original. Changing race is ridiculous.
It doesn't really bother me unless it's unconvincing. The whole part of a story is for it to be convincing. Trying to change history, to be something it isn't, is a huge mistake in films and admittedly bothers me a bit.
I honestly just don't get why they do it. It's not like they are going to have a hard time finding an Asian/ African-American/caucasian guy/woman who could actually match the role's description considering how many people audition.

It depends on the actor. Let's take the Thor movie for example: Heimdallr was portrayed by Idris Elba (though Heimdallr is a redhead). Did anybody complain? No, because he killed that role. Same did Lucy Liu in Charlie's angels. And Zendaya in both Homecoming and Far from Home. But for the rest, I'm not convinced. They should stick with the original, unless the actor is very good
Your comparison is rrelevant, it's based off the MARVEL comics the way Jack Kirby illustrated it as such. The MARVEL version of Heimdall is only an interpretation of Norse mythology.
Its beyond stupid. And notice how they never do it from black to white.
Granted, Hollywood has been wasting their time trying to look progressive and "in with colored folks homie" instead of just making a damn movie that leaves me entertained for an hour and a half
And what is up with Starfire swearing like she's watched too many reruns of Netflix's 'Jessica Jones'? She doesn't even use her unique way of talking. And she's supposed to be orange.
Starfire in the show is a bit odd. She's nothing like the character but in general the show is a lot darker all around, not a race joke. She's suppose to be an assassin from her planet, her powers come from the sun, and she's dressed like that because she legit has no memory of her life prior to the season 1 finale. I was annoyed by her character at first but she's not bad. Overall though the show does well with her.
@Hypnos0929 She needs to be orange, needs to stop watching Jessica Jones reruns and speak like she's supposed to from the comic books. 'Young Justice' the animated series is more faithful.
I'm saying that she isn't really the same character, and no one in the show is. Robin (Dick Grayson) isn't Nightwing and is a huge murderer Raven has never been to Azarath and she doesn't really know about Trigon Beast Boy is a real buzzkill at times and he only turns into tigers Cyborg isn't in the show and has been replaced by Hawk and Dove and Donna Troy.
Honestly the skin color isn't that big of a deal when you look at the facts SHE'S A MURDERER
@Hypnos0929 Ah beast boy. Just the fact that his skin isn't green is a real problem already. The ONLY series I really enjoyed from DC All Access was Swamp Thing. That had good potential to introduce all the other supernatural elements in the DC 'verse.
Not to be that guy but you're kinda sounding racist. It doesn't even seem like you care about the characters or the actors, you seem to ONLY care about race first which is a bad way to operate when looking at movies and shows in general.
Would you prefer I just say "You care more about the color of a character's skin than their character as a whole"? I gave you multiple reasons and outs but you keep jumping back to skin color. You could just say "I dont like the acting" or "My expectations were [insert x or y] so I was disappointed" or "The plot is confusing" or, what most people say, "It's too dark compared to other adaptations" but you keep going back to skin color as if it's the only reason you dislike the show.
I hate it, if the change to character is drastic, might as well create a brand new character and change up the entire backstory. With that said, I don't mind the changes to a character in an alternate universe as long as the original character is untouched in his/her universe or timeline.

If the character is fictional then to me, it doesn't matter. But if the character is a historical figure, or has actually existed then that's different because of accuracy.
Just for the sake of "look this race can do this" is stupid, if the actor can actually play that character super well though I dont tend to mind unless it conflicts with the story at hand
Depends on what they're trying to do. Is it a completely different character in a somewhat similar story or scene to scene remake? If it's the latter they should look the same as well.
I think it all depends on whether it makes sense or not. In many cases the ethnicity of the character doesn't really matter, so I find it silly of people to have a problem when they change it.

I generally don't care unless the decision was blatantly made for political reasons, or source material very clearly describes a character a certain way while movie adaptations completely ignore this.

It kind of changes the movie a bit , I would love to see a black character get changed to a white character for once and see what happens , lol or come out with “The Jefferson’s“ as being an all white family which it really was in the 1700s like Thomas Jefferson’s actual family

Exactly, well said.

They didn't get a Asian person for ghost in the shell because Hollywood argument was who would see a movie with a random Asian person vs scar Johnson

Heimdall actually has black hair in the MARVEL comics.
@October808 in the original history he's a redhead
In the MARVEL comics which the movie is based on, he has black hair. The red hair is irrelevant.
@October808 the Marvel have often always been inaccurate in depictions.

I’m especially annoyed that they are making James Bond into a black woman. It makes no sense.

the fact that you said “colored folks” shows what kind of person you are.
Makes no sense to me but it doesn't trigger me either.
Not a fan of ethnic changes, Gods of Egypt was so bad.

@Hypnos0929 Not to be that guy but you sound idiotic for misuing the word race in a sentence.
