Why do people think the office is so funny?

The simplest answer is, Because it is. Hilarious actually. One of he funniest shows ever.
But humor as with most things, is subjective. What do you find "funny"?

Agreed with the last statement. Everybody has their own sense of humor. I have never cared to watch American sitcoms in the last 25 years. NONE of them make me laugh. For me, "hehe" or "ha" is not funny. For me funny is when you keep laughing and when you watch it again, you laugh the same way.

For me funny is:
Mind your language
Faulty Towers
Perfect Strangers
Mr Bean
Live shows like Essie Murphy or Russel Peters

If there are any new US comedies, they are not on TV. They come from streaming services. Examples

@HaveNoName you seem to prefer UK humor which isn’t exactly the norm for American viewers. Are you a Brit? Also, regarding your examples of new American comedy, Californication is neither new or from a steaming service. It’s a showtime network production from 2007 and ended it’s run 6+ years ago.

I stand corrected on Californication; thanks. I think I categorized it wrong. I meant to segregate Streaming Services and Prime paid channels (like HBO n Showtime) from regular cable channels.
