Misery loves company. Some people like to wallow in their self pity. I've been guilty of that when i was younger. But that was when i believed love was nice and neat and pure. Years of living beats rhat out if you. Lol
That was me, too.. Lol. Until couple of years ago. Now I've learnt that love is not made of sugar and spice and everything nice and just because you love each other doesn't mean it's going to work out and you'll live happily ever after. š
I tend to listen to things like Metal when I'm angry or sad to be honest with you not so much sad songs even if the lyrics are sad the music tends to be more upbeat.
You basically described my teenage years, lol. Funny thing is I did not like Metal at all as a kid, but my oldest brother used to play the music A LOT and then it just started to grow on me (I was probably 13/14 back then) and I realized that listening to Rock/ Heavy Metal when I'm angry or sad makes me feel better. Listening to bands like Korn, System of a down, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, etc.. gave me this strength which I loved, of course. After 7-8 years, I started listening to sad songs which I loved but it made me miserable. So, I prefer listening to Jazz everytime I'm sad nowadays and when I want to feel energetic I prefer listening to Metal, lol
I really enjoyed listening to their music especially Sweet True Lies and Blind and frozen by Beast in Black, Rise of the chaos by Gloryhammers (So unique) and Tonight we ride by Unleash The Archers.
Subscribed because they all did help me get up and finish the chores! š
Boy! You MUST tell share the link of any great song you discover from now on, lol. Because the first Ghost love score blew me away! I loved everything about it! And Abyss made me say "Wow" over and over again. I realized later how dumb I must have looked with my mouth wide open and kept saying wow... š
Yay :) I'd love that! Sorry, my Papa got sick few days ago. So, I haven't been active on GaG, but luckily he's feeling much better now. So, I can finally relax. š
Feel free to send me a message if you find it, though.
Misery loves company, for me it shows I'm not alone and gives me an excape... Plus happy music just seems patronising. Songs of true love makes me feel I've truly failed
When you are happy you hear the music, when you are sad you understand the lyrics. When you're sad you want something to relate to and music is easy to relate to
Ah! I forgot that not everyone can cry easily. š I can't help but cry everytime I get hurt and listening to sad songs makes me cry even more. It never occurred to me that some people actually listen to it because it helps them cry and feel better š³. Thank you so much for explaining!
Oh and hey, lovely!!! It feels so great to see you after such a long time, Char! It's comforting since you're one of the very few people left who used to be a part of the great old and fun GaG family! Hope you're doing well? šÆ
Awww! I'm glas you are doing well! I won't be as active as I used to be, but I'll definitely chirp in every now and then. See you around, sweetheart :) ā„
I feel worse suppressing the tears, so I take every opportunity to pry them out with sad music until Iām all cried-out and ready to move on emotionally 😭🎧
It's because it resonates with them. The sad songs speak to the sad emptiness that they're feeling. Like it understands them and knows what they're going through.
Well, personally I think its because the the lyrics relate to what they've been through so it make make them feel a bit better knowing they're not the only person going through a bad time.
Sometimes you just need to cry and admit to yourself the pain you're feeling, but for whatever reason, pride, fear, habit, you keep it bottled up. A sad song that says the things you need to hear can relieve a lot of pressure
Indeed! I love classical music SO much. What would I do without them? š³
I doubt it's going to get better anytime soon. Lot of stuff are going especially since the COVID-19 scare has made us all stay at home for over 3 months now. But I'm trying my best to deal with it and hopefully all my problems wiil go away soon and we'll finally get to go out soon. Thank you so much š
I'm surprised you like classical music too, most people look at me crazy haha it's the most relaxing tbh. I know it must be hard being cooped up in the house, it's just making everything more stressful on every level but don't worry it can't last forever! I really think a lot of that is how positive our mindset is. Negativity attracts more negativity so you got this šš

i like to listen to them because they... help identify problems... possibly problems that are under the rug of your mind/heart... helps me deal with them and get some tears out to move foreward
I think if you're in a bad mood then you should to those things which make you happy than sad. According to the law of attraction if you'll keep thinking about sadness you'll attract it to you faster. And listening to bad songs will lead you to visualize more negative thoughts. So not only everyone in the world who react same should leave this habit. Always pray for good. Do the good you'll receive good.
After reading many people's answers on here, it helped me understand why people do it and that it actually helps them feel better. So, I'm glad you all listen to happy songs as long as it helps you feel better after some time.

I personally don't listen to sad songs that often but elton johns rocket man... It's kinda sad but I still like it
There's a reason why people call him The Legend. He made me cry and experience emotions I never knew I was capable of feeling.
Indeed, he is quite the "merry music man" -tiny dancer :)
Sometimes it's good to sit in that feeling, and really think about why, and what.
Music helps to do this.
Ah! I see
When you are happy you hear the music, when you are sad you understand the lyrics. When you're sad you want something to relate to and music is easy to relate to
Ah, I see.
I listen to music to fit my mood. And sometimes I need to release and certain songs just bring the waterworks.
by the way, hi Genie!!!

@ Genie23 your welcomeš and sorry for the mistakes š
Don't apologize, lol. It's all good. š
Sometimes you just need to cry and admit to yourself the pain you're feeling, but for whatever reason, pride, fear, habit, you keep it bottled up. A sad song that says the things you need to hear can relieve a lot of pressure
Because thats when you can relate to and understand the lyrics and indirectly appreciate the thought behind a sad song.
That's true. I never understood the lyrics of many sad songs until I was going through a rough time.
Because there are some songs that put your feelings into words when you can't, I guess
I see
I don't know I'd find it more depressing but I guess you don't want to hear upbeat kpop when you're going through some shit
Lol. Yeah, I don't wanna hear that when I'm upset. I'd rather listen to some jazz.
I like jazz and classical music too actually, it's really relaxing. Sorry you've been going through some rough times, hope it's getting better š

Music therapy. It helps processing what we are going through and feel through it all. Letting it all out to eventually move forward.
Thank you for explaining!
I have been experiencing the same for a very long time, so I know.
You are welcome!
