The ones who want to be celebrities for the sake of being a celebrity. But being an artist that makes living with their art isn't itself narcissistic.
If you're a good artist that people enjoy listening, it would be selfish to only perform in your basement and hide your gift. Plus it would be incredibly stupid not to make a fortune with your hobby if you have the opportunity for it. Why would you rather do low pay 9-5 job you hate instead of monetizing your hobby that you'd do voluntarily anyway.01 Reply

+1 yI think some are, especially the ones who think being a celebrity makes them akin to a god. Also, the ones who feel the need to share every intimate detail of their lives, including some very dirty laundry that shouldn't be aired in public.
However, I don't think having a career in acting, singing, etc. and wanting to do it for the public necessarily makes one narcissistic. They have a talent and want to show it, and there's nothing wrong with that. They also create great content for others to enjoy. It's no different than people who love to cook wanting to open up a restaurant and cook for the public, or something similar.20 Reply

For example, Future thinks he can bang as many women as he wants and have as many children as he wants. He's despicable in my opinion. The Kardashians are despicable too, the only reason they became as famous as they did was because of the OJ Simpson case. That and Kim Kardashian's sex tape...

Therefore they will do nearly anything their agent asks of them. They are like circus animals - not narcissists.00 Reply

Suppose your passion is cooking. One day you come up with a really good pie recipe that everyone goes nuts over. Everytime someone would taste it theyd tell you it tastes amazing. Many people even suggest you start selling these because they are just that good.
Now, if you have the talent and say, even enough capital to set up a little restaurant, why would you not? Why would you instead choose to cook pies for your grandma and get a 9 to 5 job that you dread going to everyday?24 Reply- +1 y
That was the analogy I used as well! Great minds think alike, lol!

@malwins To be fair, everyone is motivated by something and doesn't just do things out of the clear blue sky just for the sake of it. People want to improve at their jobs in order to earn more money, not just because they want to get better at whatever it is. If there was no reward in it, what would be the point? Since a celebrity's job is acting/singing/whatever they do that made them famous, it makes sense that money and the fame that makes them their money is their main motivation.
+1 yYou have to sort of account for how much attention they receive even when they don't want it. It's hard to empathize with that if you've never been around it. I have been around it working in Hollywood. So I judge celebrities on a different scale from ordinary people. Some insist on making it all about them. Some can actually make it about someone else reasonably well... for a celebrity!
03 Reply- +1 y
I think true empathy doesn't mean projecting yourself in other people's shoes and evaluating them according to how they differ from what you would do if they lived *your* life. It's trying our best to evaluate them based on what we might do if we lived *their* life. So I can't blame celebrities so much if they act in a narcissistic way. They're showered with attention, told by agents what they should and shouldn't say, and it's actually a kind of sad life where the public tends to analyze everything they do under a microscope. It's hard to be real and not pay a major price. But there are some celebrities who try their best not to make it about them.
They're happy to shift the spotlight to someone else, admit their own wrongdoings, etc. And even if they don't particularly excel at that over ordinary people, they don't deal with lives of a sort that ordinary people would. It's like we have to ask ourselves very honestly how we would be like as celebrities. I'm not sure I'd be a good one. I might be a spoiled brat. I don't know. - +1 y
But it's not necessarily Beyonce in charge of all that. She's probably surrounded by publicists, agents, investors, a director, etc. My imagination of being a stereotypical celebrity having worked with some in films is that I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I think I know but I really don't, I'm trying to cultivate an image, and I might even forget who I really am.

+1 yI don't believe they like the attention they get - I think they just choose fame cause its a way to get paid - there is nothing fun about walking around in heels on a cold day when everybody else has jackets on and then you have to smile and pretend you enjoy it.

+1 yOnly people with pure raw talent aren't narcissists, they never brag and share the minimal with fans just enough to say thanks.
One example who didn't enjoy the limelight and probably the least narcissistic was amy winehouse, took drugs to cope then died, constant source of ridicule by the press.00 ReplyThat's a tough one, while I agree that some celebrities are definitely waaay over exposed at the same time I understand that when someone becomes a celebrity they basically become a product and the best way to sell a product is exposure to as many people as possible. I think the whole thing is based on making money and as long as they're not hurting anyone I have no problem with anyone trying to earn money (even if they already have more than they'll ever need)
00 ReplyThen according to that, the sportsmen should also be narcissistic or any popular content creators like chefs, fitness coaches, designers, beauticians, etc.
They also SHOW off their family moments or lifestyle on social media, don't they?11 Reply
+1 yIt's not narcissism. Most do it for attention or popularity. Some people in social media develop extreme vanity due steady flattering of others and start to believe their shit smells like perfume, but majority does it for money or they want earn money with their appearance.

+1 yIt depends, I think it's all to do with ego, talented celebrities can justify their bragging rights like Ronaldo or Messi but I think talentless "celebs" like the Kardashians are just so boring and attract attention from sheep 🥱 sorry not sorry
40 ReplyNah.
I do find it funny how people easily diagnose others with personality disorders on this site though.20 Reply
+1 yOh of course they are because money is the route to all evil. They have an abundance of money for a reason and that usually extends from narcissism. That’s also why they act like they are above.
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Trying to achieve stuff don't make one narcissistic. That's not exclusive.
10 ReplyAbout 5 to 15% of people are narcissistic. The percentage is higher (about 20%) in the military and a few other occupations such as doctors and likely celebrities and politicians have an even higher percentage. However, the majority are not.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 ySo you’re saying you want everyone with a talent to hide it? You’d literally have no entertainment then. Your favorite band? Gone… your favorite tv show? Gone.
00 ReplyYes. Kim Kardashian I think is narcisstic. She likes troubles on other people. Drama feeds her.
